The Titanic Journey 1/15: Rolife Base

(Thanks again @Robotime for the early access they gave us :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:)

Titanic is here, yay!

Well, the platform that will hold it, that is. I know, I know, it’s a slow start, but it’s a start! And I’ve decided to take my proper time, go slow with it, enjoy the way, and really sit one time for each one of the 15 steps in the manual. Some steps are shorter and some are longer, but hey, I’m here for it!

Warning: the forecast is that my Titanic posts won’t be short

Step 1/15 basically means “try the lights and build the base”. So first thing I did was to try the lights, of course. You have the main panel with USB-C connection, and then it comes with two wires: the one with many lights through it as we’re used to see in their kits (I guess it’s the one that’ll go “hanging” over the ship) and another one with a bigger single yellow light at the very end (maybe that’ll light the “room showcase”?).

After that, the build of the base is pretty straightforward; I’m noticing two things here:

  • Since the wires are coming from inside the base, I’ll be moving them and turning them around the whole build
  • Instead of for example the Seahorse Barque, which you just “put” on the base, the Titanic will go fixed to his base, so you won’t be able to (or shouldn’t) remove it from it

Another thing I’m not that used to but it’ll be a “do and get used to” easy thing is the double sided tape. See the white square in the image? It comes with a lot of little parts of three different sizes and I’m gonna have to use them a lot to stick things together, probably the decorative paper parts (I’m guessing mostly for the “inside room showcase” part). It’s a interesting concept! I don’t know if this is something you usually find in Nooks or Miniature Houses? Since I haven’t built any of those yet

So I already had to used the first “S” ones (for small I guess, since the other ones are “M” and “L”) to stick the “Rolife” logo to the part with the same shape:

And there you go! The result of it is the first image in the post. I’ll probably go with step 2 tonight, since I’m REALLY willing to start building the Titanic itself! Can’t wait

Oh, by the way, as you may have noticed in the main image, the Rolife logo looks a bit… Crooked? I didn’t realize it until I actually uploaded the picture lol. It’s already fixed! But yeah, the “holes” in which you have to place that logo are a bit tricky to work with.

Ah!

Last but not least and for whoever and whenever wanna build this wonder. Notice this:

I think this is a really clever thing they did, which is a disposable “part” that is removable (and it does nothing, you just throw it away). They show up in some areas where it may be tricky or harder to remove the parts without breaking or damaging them, so they work as some sort of “safe” that will fall when you remove that part making it easier for it to be… Well, removed

I’m just telling you this because this is the first time I see them, so when the first one or two fell down, I panicked a bit like “oh gosh, I’ve already broken something”

So this is it folks, my amazing Titanic journey just began! I’ll keep you updated again soon :stuck_out_tongue:

PS: Notice the coordenates in the Rolife logo on the base? Supposedly it’s the precise location where you can find the remains of the sunken Titanic :scream:

How exciting! It’s important to have a good foundation.

The fixed base means that you can’t hang it from the ceiling. Probably for the best with this design.

I have a love/ hate relationship with the double sided tape. I end up with the white sides EVERYWHERE…but I’m not losing my fingertips to Super glue either. There’s the upside. That’s a pretty cool detail (the coordinates) on the sign. @Robotime leaves out no details, for sure. I hope you enjoy this one.

Indeed! If not, everything falls apart :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, that’s a good point as well. I haven’t thought of that since I’m not used to hanging things from it

Yeah, I had to use just a few of them during the early steps of the Seahorse Barque and I didn’t love them a lot, but in this one the work on them seems… A bit cleaner, I think?

And yeah, it’s definitely a better option than glue. My hate for glue-based builds is the main reason why I was looking for something like Robotime  so I can relate here.

Thank you for your words! Oh, I’m definitely enjoying it already

Thanks for the super detailed post I enjoyed reading it! I actually like the double sided tape, for certain things it can be very convenient to use but I also use a lot of glue so I guess I’m used to sticky things.

Thanks a lot! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it  I don’t know, since I’m posting it I like to make the best out of it :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, it’s a matter of taste! To stick things together is not my fav thing in the world to do, but I understand that the nature of some parts of some builds demands it, and hey, better to stick than to glue, that’s for sure (under my taste)
As @Nita_Davis said, I’m not losing my fingertips to Super glue haha

There is no need to rush. Step by step. Thank for share

Exactly, let’s enjoy the process as it is  it’s the best way of doing this!

@TheToday you explain well and I like that. I tend to be a little long too but if someone is really interested, they will read. I read! This will be very helpful for me soon!
Good news is I have worked with the double side stick tape stuff. I have a bag filled with extras! Most often I still use glue as the stickers are only so good. I like them for little objects but I love glue.

The beginning looks very good already! I love the little details they made like the coordinates the Rolife logo. This is gonna be such a nice build :star_struck: thanks for sharing this update @TheToday

This is such a cool build. The lights will definitely makes this more stand out.

Thanks a lot for your words @jeanneL! This is the only place where I can properly talk about my experience building these kits, and I’m a very talkative person, so… Yeah, that’s just my way of doing it :joy:

Glad you’re used to (and you can enjoy) glue/sticky stuff! I find it… Inconvenient, if that makes any sense? But yeah, for me stickers and tape are the lesser evil. Glue is the enemy, even if I happen to need it whenever I break something

Thanks a lot @Liset! I’ll be posting the second step soon :stuck_out_tongue:
