📖 [Rolife Journey] The Titanic Journey 9-10/15: Bow decks and port hulls

Finally! After a few hectic and tiring if utterly exciting days moving to a new apartment with my girlfriend, I’ve finally got the time (and specially the energy  ) to keep going with my beloved Titanic kit while we watched our football team fail once again. What a season they’re having… Long story there, lmao.

So this time I had to do two things:

  1. Prepare, craft and fit to the ship a coupe of lower decks closer to the bow
  2. Add a couple of layers to the hull on the port side of the structure

I’ve gotta say it! During the first low deck on the stern side I was nervous about all this tiny parts fitting in tiny holes next to each other thing on the deck surfice parts, but… I’m earning skill through it and I’ve felt it already this time! That’s another reason why these kits are wonderful, isn’t it?

This specific deck area was slighly challenging to fit into the structure though:

So… Those teeth on front go into two holes in the deck you already see fit in the image (those holes are right behind those cranes), and then there are two other holes in that deck that fit into the red structure behind it. Thing is, if you add slightly too much pressure in order to fit it, the long red parts of the skeleton of the ship may jump up and you’d have to take care of that before trying again. Beware that! After that, it should look kind of like this:

Last but not least, the opposite site of the ship (the port side) has received a full length hull this time! At least the black part of it, that’s it.

I can’t stop repeating how satisfying and easy it is to fit the long hull parts. They’re flexible and they fit smoothly and quickly in the skeleton parts of the ship.

I keep seeing the body of the ship slightly… crooked down, on the sides? But it’s not affecting the build so far, so I’m calm about it. As you can see this is going further and I’ll be done with decks and stuff pretty soon!

BONUS TRACK

We still have a lot (and I mean A LOT) of stuff in the boxes, specially regarding decoration, figurines… My girlfriend is addicted to Funko Pop (I’m as well, who am I lying to, but not as much as she is  ) so we’ll have plenty of shelves and tables to fill out with our nerdism. But so far I’ve found the shelf over the TV table as my perfect showcase spot!

Yeah, yeah, only one build and a half! What can I say? The Dream Gift Factory ended up as Christmas decoration gift for my parents, the Water Lily one was already for my mum, and the Carousel is at my parents-in-law, so for now… It’s only ships here!

But hey, they’re already waiting their turns to find their spots :stuck_out_tongue:

So nice pictures. Thank for share your progress. I see you have many kits to do

Aww first off congratulations on moving in with your girlfriend! It’s a new chapter and must be so exciting! Wishing you both lots of joy and happiness! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

And thanks for the detailed post! The ship is definitely looking intricate and I imagine it can be a little tricky trying to get all the teeth to fit into the holes. Was it a quite a smooth fit or you did you have to sand quite a bit?

I ran out of likes I’ll come back.

Thanks a lot! We’re so excited about this, you have no idea :star_struck:

My pleasure to share it! Actually and after seeing a couple of posts from @Orangesareus I’ve recently decided to sand almost EVERY part before doing anything with it, so besides looking a bit more smooth visually, I’m not finding any issues while fitting the teeth into the holes they’re supposed to. The kit comes with a sand paper so that comes in handy; I didn’t find any wax bar so I understand I won’t be needing that one for this build.

You did an amazing job with this build. Great progress.

Thanks a lot!

You have had some of the more difficult builds. and giving them away makes sense. Now it is your turn for yourself! Your collection will grow. I also think you are choosing meaningful kits to work on so that helps too!

I have! There were also satisfying to build though. But they were meant to be the gifts they were. Now it’s turn for the kits to stay home with us :stuck_out_tongue:

Yasss! Thanks a lot for your kind words  This is the only place where I can properly express myself about my kits and builds and be understood so I like to do it properly! And it’s also a pure joy to be a part of this amazing community

Thanks a lot! I’ll probably build the Santa on a Sleigh early next week before moving forward with Titanic (which I’ll probably do later today). After all, it’s a Christmas thing and it’s almost Christmas!

It is so hectic to move. My partner dropped one of my book nooks I had to glue a few pieces back in place.

That sounds like a great plan. I am sticking with this warm Christmas lodge because it is so close.

I’m back with my like!

Yeah after reading so many posts here I’ll take my sanding very seriously now. I don’t do it much with the Rolife kits but I think it’s a good habit to have!

I love your detailed discription about your build. Hope to make this one somewhere next year.

Thanks a lot for your words! Next update is coming real soon

Oh no! I didn’t have to glue anything but a couple of things in the Seahorse Barque fell down. It was easy to reassemble though!
