[DIY & Creativity] Romantic Venice Book Nook 🛶 3/9: The first wall ends

Previously…

1: The Gondola

2: The first wall begins

Okay then! Last time I started the first wall and I just left it hanging there with a couple of stickers and columns:

That just looks so sad and empty! I couldn’t even look at it without penitence. Such a sad, empty, lonely wall, making no sense at all.

I should do something about it, no? Yeah, I definitely should! So let’s bring it to life and start to fill all those empty holes around the seemingly random stickers, shall we?

Okay then! It’s also time to unravel the mistery of what the heck each of that stickers is meant for. Firstly I had to keep adding things to the left side of it! Yeah, the one with the random columns. Ah, now it starts to look like something!

So that open-close thingy was a door after all. And there’s a window next to it! What’s that you can see there? Another gondola? Ah, I see where we’re going. That has to be a gondola shop!

Although it shouldn’t be called a gondola shop. You rent gondolas there, right? You don’t actually buy them…

Right? RIGHT?

Oh, speaking of unsure things. I still don’t like the whole align things properly by the millimetre process when adding stickers or sticking thin papers to wooden parts. Now one of the symbols at the sides of the Gondola Shop sign is a bit crooked!

I could have used double-sided tape as the manual prompted me to but NO, I had to use glue to make it unfixable. So, even if it’s subtle, you can see how it’s barely rotated and you can even see the lines of the space it was supposed to cover. Imperfections, what can I say! They’re also a part of life but you have to move on or die trying.

Okay, let’s stop crying over a tiny stupid detail and keep going! The next step will need the following to come together:

Ah, so we’re adding another shop to the ecuation! That’s the purpose of the sticker next to our newest Gondola Shop, it seems. The parts here fit together perfectly! So I didn’t even need to put too much effort or pressure on them for this to start taking shape. This first wall doesn’t look that empty anymore, does it? :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s still that upper sticker standing alone, with no apparent purpose, just watching me in the shadows. What do you want from me, sticker, huh? Are you jealous of the others for having found their purposes?

Well, that’s just a window, isn’t it. It is! So we’ll be adding to it the proper parts forming the window itself and the side shutters. And last but not least, a majestic eagled sign pointing at the great theatre of Venice!

But… Oops. I broke it a bit! Oh, man. I mean, how couldn’t I? Just look at this:

There’s not a great pressure point on that part and it’s pretty tricky to make it properly fit into that hole, since the parts at both sides makes it impossible to keep your fingers, or even your tweezers, close to the hole. So I had to pressure from the eagle/dragon/whatever golden animal that is! Oh no. It almost broke in two parts between my fingers. And that part has no spares at all! And that is one of the most visible and remarcable details in the Romantic Venice Book Nook! Yeah, folks, I was having a little heart attack by then.

BUT… Remember how I used to hate glue? Well, I love him now. Glue and I have become best friends. I added a drop to the breaking point and another one to the unreachable hole, I tried to push it through that hole with more care and attention, and…

VOILÀ! Mission accomplished and nothing actually broke to an irreparable point. It even looks pretty good, even if you can notice it’s a little bit crooked due to the almost-broken area:

And just like that, we’re done for today and the first wall (the one that will be the left side of the Book Nook) is looking amazing! I just love it when things start to take shape and to come together, what can I say.

Well, step 3 of the manual is ALMOST done. There are also two little pots to which I need to stick two little plants and those will go on the bottom area of the wall, next to both doors, but… After my little heart attack, I need a break! So those little plantpots will be made alongside with step 4, which will be my next update. But that’ll be by Sunday or Monday, most likely! Weekend is coming and tomorrow, for the first time this year, I’ll be driving to the countryside to enjoy a well deserved hike through the nature. I’m just so excited about it! I’ve been missing a good trail.

So I hope you guys have a great weekend yourself, whatever you’re planning on doing! Feel free to share it if you feel like it

See you/read you around!

There’s nothing glue can’t fix, haha. Maybe the problems with this kit are because it’s an old kit? (Or is it just me?)

Anyway, everything is fine.

Welcome to the glue club. It’s amazing what you can do with it.
Enjoy your hike. I haven’t hiked in over 25 years and the idea has no appeal to me any longer, but I admire those who get out and do it.

One of the many reasons I love glue!! It’s looking great so far tho, I really like it.

Enjoy your hike, that sounds so lovely!

Glue can fix everything

I’m not sure how old it is, but I wouldn’t call it a problem though. We can find issues and problems even in the newest kits  they’re just callenges that are there so we can overcome them :stuck_out_tongue:

It is, phew! The small heart attack was a real thing.

Thanks a lot! I just hated it because of the messiness and finger sticking, but once I’ve found about those brush-it glue little bottles, life became brighter

Thanks, I’m sure I will! Can’t wait to reach it. Well, it’s all about personal taste and desires! I’m sure you enjoy a lot of other things to do.

Thanks a lot for your words! I’m really enjoying it as well.

Not quite everything, but close enough

I’m glad everything is okay, and I hope you don’t encounter any further obstacles.

We’ll see! But if I do found them I’ll just fight them :stuck_out_tongue: they just make things… More interesting, let’s say? Where’s the fun when everything is easy?

Good job fixing it with glue, it looks amazing!

I will go home from work in 1,5 hour (I will stop a little early because I need to take back a few hours I worked two weekends ago) and I will build some more at my Seahorse Barque.

Tomorrow we have an open day at work, and i will be making grilled cheese and handing out drinks to the visitors all day. Sunday is a rest day, so probably more building. And Monday I took the day off to get 2 complete work free days to do some household chores…

We all have so busy lives, don’t we? I hope you can find some me time and quality time as well!

This is looking really nice! I have never been a fan of stickers, just glue and paper is so much easier to get everything nice and aligned properly!

I haven’t made it there yet but it seems so, yeah!

It is, isn’t it?

And I absolutely agree with you there
