Day 2: The door, the bike and the windows
Finally some things are coming together! But before doing so, the instruction manual prompted me to deal with the first part of the ceiling… And that’s where I found my first (and, for now, only) big issue with this kit.
It’s not a problem with the build, though. It’s not something related to skills or level of complication. It’s just that… Well, basically, a part is missing from the kit ![]()
I was looking everywhere, twice, three, four times. In the box, in the bags, on the table, around the floor, even under the sofa… It’s nowhere to be found. At this point I have no clue if it wasn’t included in the kit or if I’ve lost it somewhere to never be found. It’s this one, the heat-shrink tube:
As far as intructions go, this is the part that holds the lamp hanging from the ceiling. So… What would I do? I could have asked Robotime for a replacement and wait a few days for it to arrive, or I could, i don’t know, go to a store and try to find something similar or whatever.
But I didn’t wanna wait. I like to solve things as they come, with the resources I have with me, if possible
and then, inside of Bag 3 (the one in which the tube was supposed to be, and wasn’t), I saw the insulating tape. I have a spare from another kit, and conveniently in the instructions you have the scale and size of tube you need:
Gladly (phew), the insulating tape has the same length! So I decided to go for it and hand-made some sort of “tube” folding that tape around the wires. The result isn’t that perfect, and I think I’ll need to glue the parts so the wires won’t be that visible and everything will look more smooth, but hey, it does the intended trick, which is what I was looking for:
I need to fix it a bit, as I said glue the parts, straighten it properly… But as far as solutions go, I’m pretty satisfyed with what I’ve done here! I’ll leave that perfectionism for whenever I need to work with this ceiling again, since it already took a decent amount of time to look for the missing tube, not founding it, squishing my brain looking for a solution, and deciding to apply that one ![]()
Just curious, if you’d see yourself in this situation, what would you’ve done about it?
Oh. There was another thing I needed to add to the ceiling, and that was some decoration in the shape of some strings with shiny balls. It was a straightforward process of placing those strings through some holes and blocking them there with tiny wooden parts. The result is not that bad!
I guess there will be something up there to cover the top of it, maybe the moss I haven’t worked with yet? We’ll see! But it looks pretty looking at it from below.
Ignore the hanging wires
after all, this is basically it with the ceiling for today. I have to save it face up though, for obvious reasons ![]()
And now, for the main event… The main structure is coming together, finally!
So, finally, I was gonna be using some of the things I’ve been putting together in previous steps! You know, I’ve built some Robotime kits already and I’m still fascinated by the precision and accuracy regarding parts fitting with each other. Everything is just soooo well thought and smart! And just like that, a few minutes later, the first wall is finished and looking AMAZING.
I guess that in further steps those flower boxes under the windows will require some of the crafting we love in order to be properly filled… Am I right, @Nita_Davis? ![]()
After this there wasn’t a lot to be done before the main structure finally took shape! And it’s looking gorgeous. I decided to buy this kit because of the amount of detail and the beauty of the general look printed on the box, but it looks way more beautiful and detailed “in person”. And it’s not even finished!
For the last step, jus two details: sticking the wine furniture I’ve already made to the corner, and adding some sort of stone bar counter and wall cover. It’s looking amazing already! I’m so excited to keep going and keep putting all this together, day by day, step by step.
There’s just something magical happening inside you when your kit starts to take shape, am I right? And I just reached that point. Can’t wait to see what the incoming pages have in store for me!
See you/read you around, as usual! Cheers from a Spaniard that is starting to fall in love for the Miniature House world ![]()
