📖 [Rolife Journey] Cheers Bar & Dining, Day 2: The door, the bike and the windows

Day 0: Unboxing

Day 1: Chairs, tables & bar

Okey dokey! Three things I’m learning from the first steps of my first ever Miniature House kit:

  • I urgently need a box or something to keep the little furniture I build safe since it’s taking some space to store it (and I prefer to use the kit box to keep there the parts and tolls I’m yet to use)
  • This kind of kit uses A LOT of double-sided tape! Which is not bad, but it’s kind of fun how I’m taking another slice of tape every two steps
  • I understand now why some people here take a lot of time with these kits, specially when it comes to crafting the tiny furniture. The parts are fragil, you need to be careful, etc, etc. It gives me a new perspective!

So yeah, this time I’ve only crafted three windows (at least that’s how the manual calls them, but I’d go for shutters), a door and an old-fashion bicycle. But hey, they take their generous amount of time! I like and want everything to look nice and smooth, after all.

Windows/shutters were first, obviously. I found it interesting how so many details in this kit, like the framed menus, instead of coming in the shape of stickers like I’m more used to see, they’re pieces of paper you stick wherever you have to with my dear and already famous friend the double-sided tape.

Same thing goes for the door and its stuck details on the window.

Speaking of this door @Robotime, the window for this one (as well as some mirrors in other kits, and in general a lot of transparent-ish pieces in many) comes with a protective film that you have to remove before adding it to whatever you’re supposed to add it to. Could it be possible in future kits (or even future badges of existing ones) to add some kind of easy-removable corner or lash or something? At least something that tells you “Hey, listen! The protective film is HERE, on THIS side. You can use THIS corner/bit/X to easily remove it”. Some of us don’t usually keep our nails long at all and it’s an actual challenge to first find which side is film-protected and second remove said film

Anyway, the doors looks nice and fun!

And lastly for now, the bicycle.

This one was pretty easy, fast and straightforward, just two wooden parts coming and fitting together pretty easily.

It’s entertaining to say the least, and pretty different to what I’m used to from the wooden puzzles, to craft many separate things and keep them apart until you’re supposed to start putting the whole thing together! I’m liking and enjoying the challenge of a different experience, what can I say.

Spoiler alert: the wine cabinet comes tomorrow! I can feel a lot of stickers on my fingers before going on their respective tiny cute little bottles.

See you/read you around, folks!

Thanks! It is indeed.

Your details are coming together nicely. Well done.

And yes, I would really love it if there’s a corner where you can easily peel the protective film.

Great suggestion about the films!! It would be awesome if Robotime could make your idea work!

I admit I am not a lover of the tape. Most often I prefer glue!
For the acetate sheets, the cover is usually on the side that has the numbering on it. What one might think as the patterned side.
Sometime if you look you can scratch or see a bubble to start. I will sometimes use a pin or a tweezer to get a start.

It would be helpful to have a tab for taking off the protective plastic film.

I guess there are a lot of us in this together

Oh, that’s a nice heads up, thanks! I didn’t even know they were numbered? That should be subtle. Or I’m a bit more blind than I thought I was haha.

Either way thanks for the tips  I’m gonna be using the mirror now for another piece of furniture so I’ll check it out.

Great progress so far! :pink_heart:

I hardly use the double sided tapes haha I use glue for almost everything. And the films are not normally an issue for me because I work with really sharp and pointy tweezers. If you start building more miniature houses this might be useful to you?

You’re not the first one telling me that, I may try the twitch at some point haha but glue is hardly my friend usually.
Good to know! I’ll keep those tweezers in mind for the future. Thanks for the advice!

A tip for taking the protective film off is to stick one the small double-sided tape pieces to a corner (like a tab) and pull it off.
I’m loving the vibrant colours of this build of yours. Glad to hear that you’re enjoying yourself.
