This was a prize from a giveaway last month and not something I woukd have usually purchased, thank you Robotime for these great competitions and getting us out of our comfort zones! I love a new challenge and I really enjoyed testing out the water based wood stains to colour it.
I used this gold wax for a few sparkly touches, it’s really great stuff, a tiny bit goes a really long way!
The wood stains are a lot faster than paint, they only need one coat but you do have to be careful not to use too much because they will cause the wood to swell a bit if it absorbs too much.
I had fun painting the flame it was hard to take a good photo but the colours blended in really well and I love the way it turned out
And for now it’s going to live up on the top shelf with my calendar elephant that was a gift from my Mother in law from when she went to Thailand while travelling
Thank you! Anytime I have seen hot air balloons they have been bright colours and I do love a good rainbow plus it was a good opportunity to try all the different colours of the stains too!
This turned out lovely! Here is mine. I struggled a LOT on this one. One of my first few paint jobs…and then I ended up covering it with paper…LOL! I had multiple coats of paint on everything and nothing would fit together properly. I did like my clouds, though
Yours is fantastic! I love the covered in top, that’s really clever!
I have often worried about too many coats of paint causing that to happen, this was quite fiddly to fit everything together correctly! I’m glad you ended up making yours work and your clouds are next level! they look really great!
Thank you so much for your kind words. We all learn from our mistakes…I am still learning even more about painting…wood models and painting in general…after 36 years of doing so. There is ALWAYS more to learn…and try …and DO! My clouds were done with dabbing a cotton ball. @Nectarines
Omg this is so pretty! It’s really vibrant but it also blends in I’m not sure if I’m making sense haha!
The fire is definitely beautifully done and that’s some interesting wax! Honestly, I’m starting to think I’ll have to paint my future kits or I’ll be so disappointed they don’t end up looking like this.
