I’ve seen more than once that people ask what to do when a piece gets broken or damaged. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, maybe a part breaks or arrives defective. So… what to do in these cases?
First of all: Don’t panic. There’s almost always a solution, and it’s usually easier than you think.
What to do if a piece breaks?
You have several options:
-
If it’s one of the spare parts included, use it without a second thought. Spare parts are there for a reason, so don’t hesitate to use them when needed.
-
Repair it with glue, trying to make it look as close to the original as possible. This works well if only a small part has broken off and the piece will later be hidden — for example, behind another object or against a wall. If the break is still visible after repairing, you can try to disguise it with something that covers it.
-
And if it’s an irreplaceable piece that can’t be repaired? Luckily, there’s still a solution. Robotime has a Part Replacement Service you can use if you can’t find another fix. Simply fill out the form at that link to request a replacement part.
Even the most experienced builders can end up with a damaged, broken, or factory defective piece, and that’s okay. In the end, everything can be solved, and your kit will still turn out beautifully
.
And now, my own and recent experience:
Recently, I messed up a bit with a large piece that didn’t have a spare. I’m not even sure how it happened, but it ended up damaged, and I repaired it as best I could. I’ll share a photo of how it looks now so you can see what gave me that momentary panic, along with a couple of close-ups showing the damage.
I don’t have any photos from the moment I noticed it because all I could think about was fixing it as well and as quickly as possible
. What do you think, did my fix turn out okay?
