Okay, that, I’m completely clueless about. 
I bought a cheap multimeter online and I’ll try to research how I can know the power rating of the LED. Since it’s some cheap LED strips from China, I cannot get a good answer from the seller. All I know is it’s 5V, 1mm thin and 30cm long. The positive and negative connection is placed on each end of the 30cm led.

That’s okay don’t you worry.
I’m pretty sure you’re safe to connect and use that LED strip without the chance of overheating or damaging the controls board 
All I wanted to know is how much current it draws.
Can you share the link of that LED?

That’s brilliant and no worries, I managed to get some additional info on Google and yeah you should be perfectly fine plugging this one in.
It should also be very straightforward to replace the USB with a 2-pin JST connector, just make sure the polarity is correct.
And once it’s all plugged in and ready to go, you should turn it on for like half an hour and then touch the light and the controller to see if it’s hot or not. If both are just warm, then you’re fine

Hahaha my husband and I love this show. 
We’re definitely big fans of Robin (from HIMYM), tho our daughter’s name came Batman’s Robin (we thought she was going to be a boy). When we were informed she was going to be a girl, we still stick to the name because of Robin from HIMYM.
