[Pro Tips] Help Regarding Electrical Wiring Questions in Super Creator Kits

Hello! Has anyone tried adding an additional light on their Super Creator kits? I recently won the Pink Beauty Secret Super Creator from a giveaway on IG and I wanted to customize it for my little girl. She’s very fond of Super Creator kits that have more than 1 light on it like the Bakery and this kit (Pink Beauty Secret) only has one (the main ceiling light) that’s why I wanted to customize some extra light fixtures for it.

What I thought of is a neon sign with my daughter’s name on it. I 3D-printed this small neon sign and have already bought a 1mm thin but long LED COB light for it in electric pink color. :star_struck:

Now, my problem is how to connect it to the power source. I wanted it to be seamless for my daughter so I was thinking of connecting it to the power switch of the Super Creator itself (the aircon at the back).

Before you judge me, I have absolutely no idea about electrical wirings and stuff. I researched what the white thing at the end of the wire that connects at the back of the power switch and it seems to be called a “JST” connector. I sent a message to Robotime asking what size is that JST so I can maybe find some wires with pre installed JST of the same size then just connect said wire to the cob led strip that I will run inside this 3D-printed miniature neon sign. They told me to fill up the form for a replacement. :sob: I was asking for the size, not a replacement because there is nothing wrong with my kit, it’s just that I wanted to customize it.

Anyway, TL;DR, anyone knowledgeable about electrical wirings and stuff? I need help.

More info about my materials:

The pink COB LED strip I bought is 5V, 30cm long.
I want to connect a wire to it that has a preinstalled JST connector at the end which will fit at the back of the Power Switch in the Super Creator kit but I do not know the size of the JST Male connector.

PS: It wasn’t intentional but the name chosen for the kit happens to be the name of a certain fictional Canadian Pop Star that lived in a mall for quite a while.:rofl::rofl:

This is an amazing idea. What are you going to use for the background behind the name? This sounds so cool. I would think that you could just attach the same wires to lights provided…but I would definitely ask @Martins_Assembly_H

How much know about electricity

It’s a great idea, unfortunately I wouldn’t know how to do it, I never added any extra light to a kit

Thank you! After I figured out how to put the lights properly, I will then print a back panel for this signage. I will add 2 pegs on the panel that can connect to the wall of the Super Creator kit just like how the vanity mirror is attached to the the wall like:

I also plan to add lights to the vanity mirror but I need to learn more about electrical stuff in small set ups like these hahaha. I don’t want to have overheating LED lights eventually since this is going to be used by my daughter.

I hope that @Martins_Assembly_H can help. Also, Peter Merritt @Terranoir123 is AMAZING with lights and all kinds of stuff. He might even be a better source for something like this. He’s an expert…but rarely visits the page. I would try to contact him via FB if I were you.

Thank you so much for pointing me to the right experts @Nita_Davis ! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I also posted this in the Facebook group. I hope someone can help enlighten me about it because when I try to research about it, I get conflicting answers with AI and forums I check. :sob:

Hahahaha absolutely same. In college, I had a course called Basic Electrical Engineering and I needed to take it twice because I failed the first try. I love the Math but I failed mainly because I don’t love the actual application. In paper (written exams), I was exemplary but in the application (when we have to show our work in the laboratory), I didn’t show up. :sob: I am extremely scared of electrical current after I got electrocuted while on my bed as a child. (An exposed wire accidentally touched the metal frame of my bed). That was definitely traumatic. I know I won’t get an electrocution as bad as that in one of these small kits because they mainly use batteries or smaller amount of electricity but I just can’t shake away the trauma.

That’s alright @Minus_88 ! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Thank you still for taking the time to read my long post haha.

This would be a great idea, i dont think ive seen it done before

I would be incapable of doing that hahaha luckily my partner studied electricity, I would leave it to him

I love your creative thinking here but I’m electrically clueless. I certainly hope that either Martin or Peter can help you out with your dilemma.

Its actually not that complicated to do here. Its just one plug, two wires and an LED. The power connector in the back can power 3 lights and thankfully this kit only uses one. You can cannibalize the light with wires and plug from another kit.

The trick will be fitting it into your sign.

Congratulations again Mamsh!
Excited to see your project!

Hey, that’s a very cute idea

Also I understand that your LED light has a JST connector and not a USB connector and you’re trying to figure out how to connect it to the existing power source?
Is the power source a battery pack?

Hello @Martins_Assembly_H ! Actually the 1mm COB LED strips I am seeing online can be bought with a USB end but what I wanted to do is connect the 1mm cob led to a wire with a preconnected JST male connector at the end. Basically, I want to be able to plug it in the back of the power switch included in the Super Creator kits (the aircon units at the back) so that I do not need to plug this mini neon sign in a separate USB port.

What I do not know is:
The size of the said JST male connector so that I can buy a wire with a pre connected JST male connector at the end.
Which then I plan to connect to the end of the cob led that looks like this:

There are 3V and 5V options for these lights so I’m not sure which one is best to use.

Then the JST connectors like:

which I do not even know of they are the correct size for the Super Creator power switch.

Thank you! I think the 1mm lights would fit just fine as I have modelled this to fit 1.25mm strip inside with enough thickness in case a part of the led strip needs to go above each other on certain strokes of the font style. I do not have an extra wire or light that came with the Super Creator that’s why I am asking what the size of the JST is. I wanted to connect this at the power switch of the Super Creator (the aircon unit at the back) so it will be connected the same way as the official light that came with the kit.

Basically, clueless about the JST Male connector size and if the COB LED strip that I will be using can handle the power it will receive or if the power that it will receive will be enough to make it light up brightly. I am afraid I might ise incorrect or incompatible parts that’s why I wanted to ask for advice on someone who is more knowledgable as I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. I can 3D design all I want but when it comes to the electrical parts, I’m clueless.
