The Beacons are lit! Gondor calls for aid!
And Rohan will answer.
Okay, I really needed to share this with you guys. As a reward (?) for the Bookstore Book Nook I made for my brother, he bought me a couple of kits to build. It’s not Robotime okay, but we both are huuuuge LOTR nerds, so you can imagin my joy when he showed up with Minas Tirith and Mordor!
I’ve gotta say, I don’t like to compare a lot, but after taking a look at what the box contains, it was already pretty clear that it wasn’t Robotime. It’s a different kind of kit, alright. Easier, more… Basic? The final product doesn’t look that smooth and the instructions aren’t that clear (oh, and you HAVE to use glue a lot of times, yikes). But hey! It’s the capital of Gondor, so how could I say no to that?
At least the parts are strong and firm. The main structure has its base on a central pilar, and looks like the city will hold to that.
And yeah… You’re using A LOT of glue. Basically to hold the parts together and also to add those tiny towers and windows for the different highs. I’m not a glue fan. At all. But hey, I’m not complaining with the results either ![]()
After a while, all the rings are done and the top of the city will take shape. It was such an honor to put in its place the White Tree of Gondor! (although the kit one is more like dark grey lol)
Also the mountains on the background are a nice touch to the visuals. The trickt thing? That mountain-painted part has to fit through the back of the city, which is not easy. At all. This kit is not as precise as the Robotime ones, and it shows. But with some patient and sanding, you manage. And look! Even Gandalf is riding to see it.
The rest of it goes pretty straightforward honestly. I’d have preferred a more realistic or smooth-looking one, but hey! It was a nice detail from my brother and I loved putting it together with the epic OST from Howard Shore on the background.
And it shows in the result. It’s nice and catchy to the eye, but it stil looks… I don’t know, too “fake” compared to the real fiction model?
It’s a nice touch though that, if you touch the ring, the lights turn on.
I’ll be showing you the other kit from this “combo”, the Mordor one, if you like, in a day or so. This is my first time building a non-Robotime kit, I think, and now and after looking at the differences I appreciate the brand even more ![]()
