I’ve told you yesterday that my brother gave me two LOTR not-Robotime kits (Minas Tirith and this one). So this will be my last (hopefully) time posting about a not Robotime kit. But still, it’s a kit and I’d like to share it with you guys ![]()
As I’ve told you when talking about the other one… These kits are not that detailed, nor that well explained in the manual, and don’t look that smooth. But hey! Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, right?
So, kind of like the Minas Tirith one, this one starts pretty straighforward, with the wooden floor base and the main skeleton structure to hold, this time, the tower of Sauron.
An annoying thing of this kit was that you’re dealing with the strings of lights from the very beginning and the instructions are not that clear about where to put each one of them. But, if you look close enough or take care of the length of each string, you’ll manage.
Then I had to add the floor and the pit of lava, which required a lot of glue ant patience. The look of the lava layer is nice, although you can clearly see the strings below it. Who knew Sauron was working with full electricity, huh?
And then, for the main event, the tower crafting. This took more than half the time of the build, and consists on a few layers of “make a circle around the skeleton with these parts while taking the longest string of light carefully to the top of it”. Some of the parts didn’t fit that well, or I had to apply too much pressure sometimes (it’s a wonder nothing broke! Phew), but still, it was an interesting process.
And, for the very top, the eye of Sauron, made out of painted hard plastic parts. The light at the end of one of the strings would be placed beneath it.
And yay! A few walls and strings and the Nook was done. I was more excited about building the Minas Tirith one, but after I’ve finished both of them, I find the Sauron one more… Smooth, or goodlooking maybe? Anyway! They’re both decorating a corner of my shelves now.
See you soon for my next kit, which will either be the Cuckoo Clock or the Dream Coffee Factory! We’ll see ![]()
