Marble Run LG01 Link Pack stopped working (in part)

Very happy with Marble Spaceport and Marble Night City with the Link Pack… until it stopped working. Now just the lights go on but the motor does not run. I do not hear the motor attempting to turn, like the pulleys or gears are the problem, no. The motor is silent, either it’s just a dead motor, or the circuit board no longer sends power to the motor, though it does send power to the lights, which work as expected. Is there a fix? Does this call for replacing either the circuit board (my first guess) or the motor, or both? All three kits were bought at the same time less than a year ago. Thanks in advance for your help.

I’m sorry this has happened to you. I haven’t built this personally but @Robotime should be able to help you.

@Nita_Davis have you made these? I know you have an impressive collection but I wasn’t sure.

I have done both marble runs needed @JDisaduck . I did not buy the link for the two because I’ve seen SO many people say that the motor is not strong enough to make them work together. The spaceport is already motorized so I don’t think I’ll be spending the time or effort on something that may or may not work.

That’s frustrating, I’m sorry
I’d first double-check all motor connections and make sure nothing is pinched. If that doesn’t help, maybe @CustomerService could help you; they’re usually very helpful with replacement parts or find solutions to problems like this!

Welcome you. I’m sorry this has happened to you. maybe everybody or @Robotime can help you

Hi @calstvns, welcome to the community! I’m sorry to hear that you ran into hurdles with Marble Run. I have forwarded your question to our customer service team, and they shall be giving you instructions/explanations soon. Thanks

I to have the same problem with Spaceport, it runs freely on the hand crank and run fine

on the motor for the first 5-10 mins but the internal gears of the motor are now not engaging causing a clipping sound and no movement, any help please.

A clicking sound would likely mean that one of your gears are caught on something and unable to move. Can you move it manually?

Thank you to all who have posted replies. This is a very responsive and kind community! One of you said you will be forwarding this to the customer service team, and I look forward to their reply. –Cal

Hi there!

Here’s a key point about the product’s circuit board—it has a special motor protection program built in. If the motor runs into too much friction and can’t move smoothly, this program will kick in automatically to shut the motor down (it’s to protect the motor from getting damaged!).

To check what’s going on, you can try removing the belt first and test if the motor runs normally without it. If the motor works fine after taking off the belt, then the problem is probably just too much friction from the belt or the parts it connects to.

Let us know if you need help with how to remove the belt, or if you have any other questions! Thanks so much for your cooperation.

Thanks for the tip! I just removed both belts. In the picture, there’s a belt at the nearer end and back at the other end too. Both are off. The gears are still engaged, but the two belts are off. I can turn the whole assembly with my fingers, though it feels stiff because it’s working to turn several wheels and I realize that when I turn the gears manually, I’m working to turn the lifeless motor. In any event, following your advice, the belts are off but the motor still does not run. Only the lights go on. Thanks for any additional help you might have.

Thanks for your reply, however have now removed the motor and on powering it up and gently holding the output shaft you can feel the cogs, which are probably a plastic, clipping over each other and not engaging hence the external clicking sound. So I’m thinking new motor is called for. Actual model runs totally freely.

Sorry to hear that this happened to you. I hope you get the solution to it soon.

With the belts removed, it does not work. No sound, just dead. What should I do?

I would be most grateful if you could give me guidance for next steps. With the belts removed, the motor still does not run. Wires are all plugged in. So either the circuit board is no longer working, or the motor is dead. Please advise about next steps. Of course, I would want to get a new motor if the present one is dead, or a new circuit board, or both. Please let me know what to do.

Customer Service, would you please respond to my question?
