Unboxing Carl’s Fruit Shop

It’s been a while since I bought Carl’s Fruit Shop, and I’m finally getting started!

This is a discontinued kit, and it’s definitely a kit for people who enjoy gluing! :joy: It’s quite different from the newer puzzle-piece kits, so if you miss the more traditional and slightly more advanced way of building, this one might be right up your alley.

I tried putting the walls and floor together today, but since everything needs to be glued, I had to improvise and put some things behind them to keep everything standing while I work. :joy: The walls and floor also rely quite heavily on the decorative paper, so I’ll have to figure out how I want to deal with that during the customization.

The kit comes with SO many cute little pieces for making fruit and vegetables, which I’m really excited about! Unfortunately, I’ll have to skip quite a few of the tropical fruits because… well, autumn in Norway isn’t exactly tropical.

I’m a little tired today, so I’m not going to start planning the walls and floor properly yet. I’ll just get everything primed for now. I haven’t made any sketches either, so I honestly have no idea exactly how this is going to look yet. :joy: I’m thinking about using light stone tiles on the outside walls, though!

There is a lot of thirsty wood that needs priming

Also… is there something you’re completely obsessed with when it comes to this hobby?

For me, it’s paintbrushes. :joy: I prefer paint instead of markers, and I love trying new ones! I just found a new collection of miniature brushes that I’m going to test out. I really do try to take good care of my brushes, but sometimes I get a little too excited with the painting and forget to clean them before it’s too late. :sob::joy:

And lately, several people here have either left or taken a break from the community. People who welcomed me with open arms when I first joined and were always so kind and lovely.

I really hope that one day things will feel better for you here, and that you’ll come back. I miss you.:heart::hugs:

I am looking forward to how this will turn out. I have taken a step back from the community. It took up too much of my time lately. And I wasn’t in the right headspace to deal with it all on top of everything else (work, life,…). I will stay somewhat active here although not all the time as I used to and I will definitely keep building because that is what I like most.

But I like to make time again for friends, family and other hobbies as well. So time on the community pages will be limited.

@Tinybysiw Thank you for sharing your unboxing. It looks really cute and the choice to paint instead of using markers is very cool. I know that @Nita_Davis does the same. I just couldn’t do that as it takes too much time and patience that I dont have lol. Good to see your process though. I too hope others come back after healing, people are missed in the great community .

I, too have an obsession with the painting part. I agree that you can never have too many. I must admit that I am a bit envious of your collection. I was saddened to see Thornfield be put on the shelf for a bit, BUT…I am beyond excited to see what you do with your fruit shop for the autumn theme. FOMO brought me back!

Thank you so much :heart::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I completely understand, and I think you’re doing the right thing by making more time for yourself, your friends and family. The community should be something you enjoy, not something that adds more pressure. I’m just happy you’ll still be around when you feel like it :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::two_hearts:

I love discontinued kits!!! Thanks for sharing this one!

Thank you :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Hehe, I know the most people enjoy markers. I got some of those to, but with all the testing and failing I do.. I realised that paint is the most budget friendly :joy:

No, it’s not that familiar. I almost feel bad for customizing it, because it’s originally a very beautiful kit  Maybe you cand find it one eBay? :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thank you :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::heart: Well I love the words «taking a break» so I totally understand that it can be so good for many people

Hahaha, I’m glad FOMO brought you back! :joy::heart: I’m excited to get started on Carl’s Fruit Shop too, although I’m definitely going to miss Thornfield while he is packed down in a white box :sob::joy:

Thanks for sharing this lovely kit. I like kits that are more DIY than those that are take less time to build. I also prefer painting over using markers, though it is more time consuming.

This build is so beautiful but I know it needs lots of work. Have fun building @Tinybysiw
