Hello all! Going to atempt painting a build. Not a Robotime one. My question is..do most paint after assembly is done or before assembly. I plan on using acrylic paint markers. Is that a good choice or is there a better choice? Thanks in advance!

I paint it before assembly. It will be a lot easier that way
I paint before assembly, then touch up after if needed. I use acrylic paint or markers, depending on what i have at the time i build.

Personally, I like to paint as I go. I find it’s much easier to reach all the little details before everything is assembled.
If it were me, I’d paint first and build second. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out!
@Peter_Cleveland good luck! I know everybody is going to tell you to paint beforehand. But every time I’ve ever colored a kit I have painted as I went grouping the pieces according to colors if they are being assembled at the same time. That process just works better for me, but it may be different for you.

I think it’s better to paint the pieces before assembly. Otherwise, some small areas can be really difficult to reach once everything is put together.

I would say it’s 90% before assembly but I always seem to miss an edge or something so that 10% is oops and I fill that in later

I have built about 135 models and approximately 120 of those are fully painted. I paint any small details while they are still attached to the board. After that, I will continue removing small sections at a time to paint the edges and the rest of the piece. There will also be touch up where joins meet and I do that as I go depending on how hard they will be to reach after full assembly.
I mostly use those. but if I have a large amount or cannot find the color I may mix with liquid. unsure where you are from but I got the liquid bottles from Walmart

I paint before assembly and found that painting the edges with white first makes the color more brighter.

I haven’t painted any myself, but since they are separate parts, I gather it’s better to paint them before assembly.
Most people plan out what they want their build to look like and paint before assembly. Hope this helps!
I use acrylic paint markers but others do use paints. I always pain in the boards before taking them out.
I think if you’re painting larger areas, you may be better with paints rather than markers.
I usually paint before assembly whenever possible since it’s much easier to reach all the little details, and acrylic paint markers work great for clean, precise coverage.

I also use acrylic paint pen markers i find them very good !

Painting those edges white does take a lot of time but I agree that it makes your color more true @Jill_Francisco
