Thoughts? - Wooden DIY vs other materials

What are your thoughts on the visual appeal of wooden DIY projects?

Does a ‘wooden’ look help maintain a unique characteristic over other types of DIY builds such as plastic blocks or sheet metal miniature models?

I think it exudes sophistication and vintage charm, elevating it into a collectible.

I definitely prefer the wood models over the plastic ones. Of course, I paint them all but that is what I love about them. YOU are the creator. They don’t appear to be the same as everyone elses. Whereas, with plastic models, there is not as much room for creativity.

I agree! I really prefer the wooden look, it gives a warmth and vintage charm that other materials just can’t match hehe

I prefer wood because I can easily paint it and make it unique. As @nita says, wood offers more possibilities, and you don’t all have the same structure.

I prefer wooden puzzles more than plastic ones, just because I like the smell and feel of the wood.

Wooden kits have a finer finish thus look more pleasing. But hard plastic ones are easier to manage.
I’ll go with wooden ones if I want a really long build time and the plastic ones if I want a quick fix.
For gifts I usually get the wooden ones.

Just try it once  if you have questions let me know and i will help

The sheet metal ones look something like this:

Method is similar to wood with individual pieces slotted or linked together. Probably a lot thinner than what you were expecting so no welding needed haha.

I use Apple Barrel acrylics in the bottle from Walmart. You can view my portfolio here. Feel free to ask if you have questions about any of them. https://community.robotime.com/u/nita_davis/activity/portfolio

You can weld veryyyy small. Like 0.5mm haha but maybe this is thinner than that! Thank you for sharing that! I have never seen them before!

The metal sheets are laser cut and engraved so the concept should be pretty similar. I think the hard part is that it’s thinner than wood, so would need to use tools eg pliers, tweezers to slot in and bend the connecting points.

Thanks for the reply. I would indeed need the correct set of plieres

I prefer wood and when I do paint them I like to use wood tints or stains to keep the wood look coming through.
