I definitely prefer the wood models over the plastic ones. Of course, I paint them all but that is what I love about them. YOU are the creator. They don’t appear to be the same as everyone elses. Whereas, with plastic models, there is not as much room for creativity.
I prefer wood because I can easily paint it and make it unique. As @nita says, wood offers more possibilities, and you don’t all have the same structure.
Wooden kits have a finer finish thus look more pleasing. But hard plastic ones are easier to manage.
I’ll go with wooden ones if I want a really long build time and the plastic ones if I want a quick fix.
For gifts I usually get the wooden ones.
Method is similar to wood with individual pieces slotted or linked together. Probably a lot thinner than what you were expecting so no welding needed haha.
The metal sheets are laser cut and engraved so the concept should be pretty similar. I think the hard part is that it’s thinner than wood, so would need to use tools eg pliers, tweezers to slot in and bend the connecting points.
