📖 [Rolife Journey] Sailing Ship - Part 1/3

Hello there!

So… I was supposed to start the Cuckoo Clock this week but, sadly, due to a delivery issue I have to wait for another week. No panic! I went to the store and found a decent amount of these little smaller cheaper Rolife kits, and thought to myself… Well! I can go for one of those in the meantime to kill the week, right? And of course, since it’s me we’re talking about, it had to be the ship. I love ships. I can’t help it (and that’s why the Viking Ship kit won’t be far from me for too long… Probably after 2 or 3 more kits, huh).

So since the Cuckoo Clock is coming next Monday/Tuesday (fingers crossed…), I’ve decided to split this small build in three days. It’s a bit… Hard? Since these kits are short and you can easily finish them in a single evening if you have the will and time :stuck_out_tongue: but I’ll try.

I’m still amazed at the little wonders that can come out of three single sheets of parts  anyway, there we go!

So for the first day I decided to go for the full main structure. By putting the first few parts together you can already get an idea of the size of it. It’s gonna be a cute little ship, isn’t it?

From that point, the building process of the ship skeleton goes pretty straightforward.

And then, after the skeleton and… Hull? It’s time for the decks. I’ve honestly found the foldable parts of the Rolife kits being in general more… Stable and less fragile? Than the ROKR ones.

And last but not least (for this first of three days), the last parts of the hull, including the Rolife branding which looks pretty nice on the stern area:

It’s a cuite little build! I’m kind of getting used to these smaller and faster Rolife kits to kill time between the “big” ones (although I’ve gotta admit, I’m missing them and their long and relaxed daily process a lot).

I also kind of fancy their wooden color, which is probably the main reason why I’ve decided not to paint them.

So… Tomorrow I’ll probably finish building the ship, and for the last time I’ll deal with the sails and ropes. This will be my third Rolife-smaller and faster kit. I haven’t posted them but I’ve also made the Airplane and the Ferris Wheel.

The Airplane was pretty straightforward, and I truly love how it looks.

The Ferris Wheel was a nice and even faster build, although I’m not sure why some of the cabins don’t rotate when I turn the whell. Maybe I need to wax them a bit?

Either way, they look nice, don’t they? See you/read you around!

I build this one years ago and didn’t even know the brand back then. It is a nice ons to kill the time but i totally get the love for the long builds. The bigger the better.

I like this! I admit I would want to paint but I like natural as well!

Wow! I didn’t know that ship is tiny. I just realized it with your photo holding it.

I like to switch things up between bigger builds also. Maybe you could experiment with painting while you wait.

I’ve noticed already that you like to build ships. So it’s nice that you found a small one to do between more difficult sets.

I think about setting difficulty, I support Jerry: the more complicated the kit, the better for me. I like challenges

Still very happy to read about it and indeed the wood color has something in it (but have you considered painting it with the wood paint so the color will be the same but more shiny?)

Hope you will enjoy this one on your display when it is finished. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I agree that sometimes the wooden look is just as nice. I have some small houses here (another company) that I truly love the wood look.

The quick ones are nice to do once in a while. I’ve done the ship as well and have the airplane in my stash. No plans to get the little ferris wheel, although it looks nice.

I’ve never seen this so thanks for sharing! It looks really cool! It’s always nice to alternate between big and smaller builds but either way I’m a slow builder so I take forever. Life gets too busy hahaha.

Sometimes it’s fun to make some small constructions while waiting :slightly_smiling_face: They turned out really nice.

Such a cute little ship already! These smaller Rolife kits are perfect as a fun break between big builds. Looking forward to parts 2 and 3!

“The bigger the better”. Oh, Jerry.

You could by it through the website though! It’s a cheap one.

Same thing happened to me!

Nah… While the idea could be tempting, I don’t really enjoy painting. I do love to see you guys doing so!

I definitely do! It’s a shame that @Robotime doesn’t have a lot of variety there, but there’s a nice amount of interesting kits in the catalogue to work with.
