Im looking into starting to customise some of my builds and I was wondering if anyone has any advice on making my own printables for picture frames or boxes. Are there websites with templates? Or free printables anyone has used and could reccomend?
What are your favourite pieces you have customised? I would love to see if you have photos!
Can you share with some concept art what you want to do? I am a person who learns with drawings and pictures. I get a lot of my items cheaply at thrift stores and dollar stores for simple cheaper ideas.
I have a lot of different ideas! I want to make a laundry room, im thinking of things like box templates that i could maybe put my own pictures on and print myself or any sort of templates for furniture that I could make myself.
Hi @Nectarines, i only painted Rokr builds, didn’t make any miniature builds yet. You can look in my portfolio for inspiration. But i don’t think i can help you with your question i think @Wenbare can help you
Thank you @Liset i didnt realise i could see other peoples profiles! Still learning how it all works! Appreciate it! What paint do you find best? And do you use a primer?
No i don’t use a primer. If you buy good acrylic paint (not the cheap ones) it will cover well in 1 or 2 layers. I used acrylic paint from Amsterdam. I know @Nita_Davis use always acrylic paint from applebarrel
Good morning @nectarines! Adding photos into the frames was one of the very first things I did to customize my kits, and honestly, it’s one of the easiest. You can always find pre-designed box templates online by searching for something like “miniature printable boxes.” The only tricky part is the size — depending on the kit, you’ll need them in different dimensions. Once you’ve got the right scale, you can edit them or you just print, cut, fold, and voilà — you’ve got your boxes!
For photos, it’s a bit different since every frame has its own measurements. My tip to make it easier is: measure the photo that goes inside the frame (check the instructions to see which one it is, or measure the frame directly, keeping in mind that the frame edges will cover part of the picture). Once you know the size, you can use a simple editing tool like Canva to create your image in the exact dimensions. Print it, cut it out, pop it in the frame — and that’s it!
It’s really simple, and once you start, you’ll find yourself coming up with more and more creative ideas. I’ll show you photos of some kits I’ve customized, and of course, if you have any questions, feel free to ask
Yeeees! The boxes are just adorable!! I’m really glad I could help you! When you start trying things out, you know we’re here to help you with any questions
Hello. I love it when people get the urge to customize. I have painted almost all of my models. I have a full collection (9) of vans each designed with a specific theme. For a lot of the artwork on them, I will find clipart, then print out the page. I scribble on the back with a pencil and then trace around the picture to “transfer” it to my wood. For one of my vans, I took pictures of band logos and then printed them as photos. I then glued them in place. I remember that you recently purchased the Christmas Melody Tree and Dream Gift Factory. I customized both as well. The Gift Factory will always be my favorite. All can be seen in my portfolio. You can view it here. Feel free to ask any questions you may have on any picture.
