What better way to welcome fall than by gathering together, meeting new people, reconnecting with friends, and of course, crafting! That’s exactly what happened September 26, 2026 in Sooke, BC, located on the southwest coast of Vancouver Island.
The day brought together 21 crafters for the 3rd Rolife DIY & Craft Meet Up, and the room was filled with creativity, curiosity, laughter, and plenty of pieces
The meet up welcomed 11 new attendees and 10 returning participants. The newcomers arrived with a sense of wonder and curiosity about what they were about to experience, while the returning crafters walked through the door with the excitement of knowing exactly what was in store.. The ages ranged from 6 years old to those young at heart.
One of my favorite parts of the meet up was seeing the incredible variety of relationships represented. Crafting really does have a way of bringing people together, and this event was a wonderful reminder that sometimes the best way to spend time with someone you love is simple sit side-by-side (or across the table) and create something together. We had:
- Father & daughter
- Mother & daughter
- Mother-in-law & daughter-in-law
- Grandparents
- Families
- Friends
- New friendships born out of past meetups
After going over some administration details, learning more about the history of Robotime and introducing ourselves, the excitement in the room grew even more when it was revealed it was Rolife’s 9th Anniversary. To help celebrate, Rolife generously gifted every participant with a customization kit containing extra decorations, giving everyone the opportunity to add their own personality and creativity to their miniature build. The appreciation for Rolife was definitely felt around the room.
When attendees arrived and signed in, they were asked to pick a number. That number corresponded to 1 of 5 different kits:
- Rolife Honey Dessert Talk DIY Miniature House,
- Rolife Garage Workshop DIY Miniature House,
- Rolife Baking Kitchen DIY Miniature House,
- Rolife The Magic Study DIY Miniature House, and
- Rolife Tipsy Restaurant DIY Miniature House.
The 3 Super Creator kits were assigned to the younger participants and there was time to trade kits for anyone who saw another kit that caught their eye.
The moment everyone opened their boxes, the energy in the room changed. Instructions were opened and read, tiny pieces were unwrapped and sorted, tools - both borrowed from Rolife and brought from home came out. Conversations became more animated as everyone explored their kits and figured out where to begin.
I was particularly impressed by how prepared some of our crafters were. One participant arrived with a headlight - which as it turns out, is incredibly useful when trying to read the tiny print in the instruction manual! Others brought their own extra tools and glue to make assembling a little easier.
There were also some heartwarming conversations happening around the tables. Max, a 6 year old boy, made new friends as he struck up conversations with those around him. One mother-in-law and daughter-in-law shared how they actually work on the same miniature kits in their own homes outside of the meet ups with the goal of coordinating their builds with the seasons and holidays. Seeing these connections during these meet ups is really what these are all about.
Halfway through the meetup, attendees were given the opportunity to earn a Rolife-branded canvas tote bag by following the instructions placed on each table showing them how and where to share their meet up experience on the Robotime Community website.
And while there was plenty of chatting throughout the afternoon, there was one point when the entire room became surprisingly quiet - everyone was concentrating! Tiny pieces were being carefully positioned, instructions double-checked and faces were focused as everyone tried to bring their miniature house to life. In all honesty, it was pretty adorable seeing the intense look of concentration across the room!
A few attendees unfortunately had to leave before the meet up wrapped up so I wasn’t able to get everyone together for a group photo. But I managed to sneak in a photo with those who stayed until the end and had given consent to be photographed.
By the time the afternoon came to a close, the room was filled with happy crafters, plenty of conversation about how far everyone managed to get with their kit, and of course, when the next meet up will be.
If you have never built a Rolife miniature kit, I highly recommend checking to see if there’s a meet up happening near you or if you have, consider applying to become a Brand Ambassador. You might just leave with a new hobby, new friends, new inspiration, and a whole new appreciation for the joy of creating something with your own hands.
