Meetup Event 02 - Auckland, New Zealand
Small Pieces. New Connections.
In a country where people often pause to take in the beauty around them, it felt only natural for a small group of crafters in
Auckland to gather and celebrate another kind of creativity: building something slowly, patiently, and by hand.
And so, New Zealand’s very first Robotime Community Meetup quietly came to life, a relaxed morning where curiosity, patience, and the simple joy of crafting brought people together around the same table.
What made the day special wasn’t just the builds on the table, but the feeling of shared discovery in the room. Some participants had never built a Robotime kit before, while others came with a bit of experience. By the end of the morning, though, everyone had learned something new, and shared a few laughs along the way.
1. Opening the First Boxes
The meetup brought together
16 participants, each choosing a kit to build during the session. As the boxes were opened and the wooden boards carefully removed, the room quickly filled with the familiar sounds of crafting: the soft clicks of pieces fitting together, quiet moments of concentration, and the occasional laugh when someone realised they had skipped a step.

Participants explored several different Robotime kits during the meetup, including Sweet Scoopery Ice Cream, Old Times Bookstore, Honey Dessert Talk, and Terminator M870 Justice Guard.
For first-time crafters, discovering how flat wooden pieces slowly transform into detailed miniature worlds was part of the magic. Meanwhile, more experienced builders naturally stepped in to help explain tricky steps or share a useful tip.
Before long, the tables felt less like separate workspaces and more like a shared workshop, where everyone contributed a little knowledge, encouragement, and plenty of smiles.

2. Crafting Together
As the morning continued, each project began to take on its own rhythm. Mechanical models called for careful alignment and patience, while miniature scenes invited crafters to slow down and enjoy the tiny details.
One especially heartwarming moment came from a young participant named
Summer, who carefully worked through her kit piece by piece. With a little help from her mum Jen from time to time, she managed to complete most of the build herself, a wonderful reminder that patience and curiosity can be the best tools a crafter can have.

The first finished model of the day was the Terminator Justice Guard Gun, followed soon after by the Sweet Scoopery Ice Cream kit. Several other projects were nearly completed before the session wrapped up, while some participants chose to take their kits home and continue the experience at their own pace.
No matter how far each project had progressed, everyone left with something meaningful: a build in progress, new skills learned, and a memorable morning spent creating together.
The Start of a New Community
By the time the meetup wrapped up, the tables looked very different from when the day began. Flat wooden boards had slowly turned into miniature creations, and unfamiliar faces had become friendly ones sharing photos, tips, and stories about their builds.
For Robotime, the event marked the beginning of a local crafting community in New Zealand, a place where people can meet, learn from one another, and enjoy the creativity that comes from building something with their hands.
And of course, none of this would have happened without the person who decided to take the very first step and bring the idea to life.
Thanks to Jade’s thoughtful planning and welcoming spirit, the event wrapped up with
16 crafters sharing their builds, stories, and plenty of laughter; the kind of warm atmosphere that makes people already look forward to the next gathering.

Behind New Zealand’s first Robotime Community Meetup is someone who describes herself in a very simple way: “an introvert.”
Jade (@JDisaduck) lives in the beautiful country of
New Zealand, where dramatic landscapes and adventurous activities are part of everyday life.
Her day job is in healthcare, a role that often leaves her mentally exhausted by the time she gets home. After a long day of caring for others, she looks for something that allows her mind to finally slow down.
That’s where crafting Robotime kits comes in.
For Jade, crafting is more than just a hobby, it’s a way to completely unwind. When she sits down to craft, she usually has
soft music playing in the background while she focuses on the tiny pieces in front of her. In those quiet moments, the outside world fades away and her introverted mind finally gets what she jokingly calls
“a little social leave.”
Last year wasn’t an easy one for Jade. During a period of recovery after surgery and a number of personal challenges, the Robotime community became a place of comfort and encouragement. Watching others build, sharing progress, and exchanging kind words helped turn quiet crafting moments into something much more meaningful.

Over time, the hobby has become something deeper than relaxation. Crafting has taught her patience, focus, and a sense of calm, while the Robotime community has given her the confidence to share her creativity with others.
Inspired by the encouragement of fellow crafters, Jade recently began customising her kits, experimenting with new themes and creative ideas. One of her proudest projects so far is a customised build inspired by Studio Ghibli, a project that pushed her creativity and taught her new techniques along the way.
Among all the kits she’s built, she also holds a special place for the
Robotime School kit, which remains one of her all-time favourites.

She is creative enough to design a unique and delicate double-sided bookmark for the meetup event, leaving participants with a thoughtful keepsake and a memorable experience.
Although she may describe herself as shy, Jade still decided to take a brave step: organizing New Zealand’s first Robotime community meetup. It was something she had never done before, but she carefully prepared posters, tools, and the event space so that everyone who attended would feel comfortable and welcome.
With Jade’s thoughtful guidance, the event went on smoothly with crafters celebrating their builds together, the room echoing with laughter and shared excitement.
We are incredibly proud of Jade for all the joy she has brought to the community and to the wider miniature world!
