This is not a Robotime or Rolife kit, and out of respect for the company, I’m not naming the brand here. If you’re curious, it’s easy enough to find.
I’m working on Whispering Hollow as a multi-part project, and even just the setup stage gave me a good sense of how detailed this one is going to be. I always start with a full inventory check and a pre-test of all electronics, and everything checked out great here.
I’ve built quite a few detailed kits at this point, and this one feels on par with something like the Classic Carousel in terms of detail and overall presence. Because of that, I’m approaching it a little differently. I’ve decided I’m going to sand every edge and take extra time throughout the build to make everything look as clean and finished as possible. I’m also planning to edge all the raw pieces with a walnut furniture marker, which I think will really help elevate the overall look.
There is an impressive amount of detail packed into this kit. It includes a wind-up music box, both battery and USB lighting options, and a mix of tiny elements like bells, deer, rings, maps, baskets, and pumpkins. There’s also a very large bag of loose powder grass and vines, which is a first for me and something I’m really curious to see come together.
I’ll also be building the dust cover as part of this project, so this is definitely shaping up to be more of a detailed, slower build than usual.
I’ll be sharing more detailed, day-by-day progress over on Instagram whenever I’m actively working on it, so if you like following along with the small steps, that’s where most of the updates will be.
When you start a bigger or more detailed kit, do you change how you approach it, or do you build it the same way as any other project?
Also curious… would you want to see regular progress updates here as I go, or just occasional check-ins with bigger milestones?
