On Saturday I hosted my first meetup. I had 7 participants in the end. I had a few others who wanted to join but already had plans on this day. So I will arrange for them to have a little meetup at my house in a few weeks.
Everyone could pick the kit they wanted and with some snacks and drinks on the table they began to craft.
It was so nice to see the different types of crafters, the silent ones who just continued building. And the talkative crafters, who wanted to talk just as much as crafting.
1 of them even slowed down with crafting to explain each step to the other (they had the same kit).
A mother and her son, who picked the Eiffel Tower got it finished during the meetup. But although we checked on the lights working, they had some struggles along the way and when we plugged it in, it did not work.
There was no way of getting it deconstructed again and I did not really see where the issue was either way.
So because I felt bad for them, I gave them the Eiffel Tower I made so they have the one they constructed and a working one. I will make mine again.
The end time of the meetup was 5 pm. But the participant who was working on the London bus wanted to finish. Luckily I had the venue until 6 pm. So she could finish up after we made the group photo and the others went home. ![]()
I could give away 3 Nanci dolls for community sign ups and 3 others I had for a mini game or other giveaway. I granted one to the ones who finished their kit since they also really liked the dolls. And another I had won by a participant by a game of rock/paper/scissors. She wanted to win one for her grandchildren.
For a next meetup, I want to try to gather more people and I hope to make it happen by advertising on public boards in the neighboring cities.
To end this recap, I asked all participants who joined what they liked most about the afternoon.
- ‘I liked the choice of kits. It was hard picking just one of them to make.’
- ‘If there will be another meetup, let me know, I want to come back.’
- ‘We want to make another kit, where can we buy it’ - yesterday they actually bought a kit on the website

- I don’t want to go home.’
- ‘This afternoon went buy in just a blink, I can’t believe we have been crafting for 3,5 hours.’
My mom joined the community @Moeke68 and I helped her write the post about the meetup. She’s not that good in English, so I’m afraid she will not be posting much more, but she wanted to post this one for me. For which I’m very grateful.
Thank you @Robotime to help me organize this meetup. I hope to grow in the organizing so I get even better meetups in the future.
