It took a while, but here is another small update on the typewriter. The buttons are all working. I fiddled with the letter M for a bit, because it kept getting stuck after I pressed the button. Upon inspection, it turned out the iron wire on the back was a bit bent. Fortunately, there are spares available.
I don’t know which parts will remain visible, so I am painting every piece completely black so that no bare patches of wood will be visible later. This takes a lot of time, which means the build isn’t going very fast. I am currently working on the part that guides the paper. There are some gears incorporated into this. Because it is made of somewhat thicker wood and consists of different layers pressed together, a thin layer keeps breaking off the gear. I was able to glue these very small pieces back on so that the gear remains smooth. I think carving it out with a small knife will work better. I am going to try this with the next gear.
Hi Liset! It is so wonderful to see those typewriter buttons clicking into place. I am so impressed that you caught that bent wire on the M key and used those spares to fix it up perfectly. You are doing an incredible job and I cannot wait for your next update!
Thank you @Robotime I initially wanted to leave the M button as it was, because I thought the problem was due to the wires facing the opposite direction and therefore touching each other. I checked again and then saw that the wire bent when I pushed the button in. This was because the hook at the end was not bent properly. I then replaced it to assess if this was the problem
Yay new update! Was looking forward to it haha.. Nice job so far! What do you think of the typing mechanism? Is it smooth and easy to click or need to be very gentle with it?
