I thought there were going to be more pairs of horses than there actually were—it turns out there are several unique ones. I swear one looks like a goat. But the zebra? I’m super happy with how that one turned out. I took some creative license with the striping on the bare wood places, and if I did everything the way I think I did, you shouldn’t be able to see raw wood anywhere on these horses.
What really impressed me about this kit is the mix of materials. There’s plastic where it really needs to be—the base, the motor, the carousel poles the horses attach to, the lights, and the canopy top. But it all fits together so much easier than some other kits I’ve built with this kind of shape. The rest is wood and detail work, and it really does feel and look like an authentic carousel. That’s thoughtful design.
The functionality is great too. You get two different songs you can play, and if you press the power button a third time, you get all the lights on solid. That’s a really nice feature. And it’s USB powered only—no batteries needed.
Here’s the thing that surprised me the most: I didn’t use a single drop of glue on this entire build. Not one. I didn’t expect that going in, but it’s a testament to how well this kit is engineered.
This was exactly the deeper, more intense project I needed. I’m really happy with how it turned out.
Beautiful build indeed! I’ve made this one a few months back and I was amazed at the materials and the smoothness of the build. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I’m really amazed on how this build was made up. Thank you for the well written review! I’ve learned a lot about this model which are interesting details about it.
Hi Kim_Kieffer, your zebra looks absolutely stunning with those custom stripes, and I love that you spotted the unique horse that looks like a goat! It is so rewarding to finish an intense project like this without needing a single drop of glue. Your attention to detail and creative flair really brought this carousel to life!
