Update- Part 3 - COMPLETED/FINISHED
ROKR Mechanical Typewriter – Magic Version
Day 6 (August 1): Saturday; Day 7 (August 2): Sunday
No progress on the typewriter this weekend. I was busy hosting my Open House and playing pickleball. Sometimes life gets busy, but I was looking forward to getting back to the build.
Day 8 (August 3): Monday
Back at the workbench! I continued assembling the typewriter and learned even more about the incredible engineering behind this model. The parts are very small and delicate, so it’s easy to break something if you’re not careful.
Some parts must be sanded and waxed properly; otherwise, the typing function can be affected. You also have to make sure all the gears mesh smoothly. If a gear doesn’t turn correctly, you have to stop, investigate the cause, and sometimes go back several steps to review the instructions. One of the biggest lessons I learned was to pay close attention to the direction of every part—especially the grooves. A tiny mistake can affect the entire mechanism.
Day 9 (August 4): Tuesday -----
Finished! ![]()
Today, I finally completed the ROKR Mechanical Typewriter (Magic Version)!
Whew! What an incredible journey it has been. The assembly manual contains 54 pages of detailed instructions, and each page required patience, focus, and careful attention to detail.
Seeing the finished typewriter working perfectly made every challenge worthwhile. I felt so happy, proud, and relaxed knowing I had completed this amazing project in such a short time. This has truly been one of the most challenging—and rewarding—DIY kits I’ve ever built.
A heartfelt thank you to ROKR for creating such an amazing masterpiece and for giving me the opportunity to build this incredible kit after I won the 2026 Mid-Year Maker’s Choice Vote. It has been an unforgettable experience from beginning to end. Every challenge along the way made completing this model even more rewarding, and I’m truly grateful for this opportunity. ![]()
Thank you to everyone who followed my progress, encouraged me along the way, and shared this journey with me. Your support means so much. ![]()
And here it is… my completed ROKR Mechanical Typewriter (Magic Version)! ![]()
The Mechanical Typewriter looks fantastic! ![]()
The first thing that stands out is how authentic the finished typewriter looks. The vintage keys, the carriage with the paper loaded, and all the exposed mechanisms really make it feel like a miniature antique typewriter rather than just a model.
Until my next build… happy crafting, everyone! ![]()

My Review:
My only suggestion for improvement would be the ribbon color. A darker ribbon would add the perfect finishing touch and make this already beautiful model look even more authentic.
