Today’s been one of those cozy days at home — spending the morning making a little progress on Kiki’s Magic Emporium , and the afternoon catching up on some school work (evaluations are just around the corner!).
This time, I decided to give one of the yellow furniture pieces a makeover. I wanted it to match the rest in brown tones. I used Vallejo paints, a Spanish brand well-known among miniature painters for its rich pigments and smooth finish. For this piece, I mixed brown and chrome over to create a sort of shiny brownish-blue color (I’m terrible at describing colors, sorry!). But honestly, I really like how it turned out.
I also added some copper and mossy green touches to a few other pieces and painted the little stars on this cabinet in copper too. I’m not completely convinced with the result, but I can always change it later. Also, I’m still missing the handles, which are made with wire, but I’ll leave that for another day.
And I also wanted to show you this particular paint “color” — it’s made to create a frost effect! I think it’s absolutely amazing. I might use it on a miniature with a Christmas theme if I finally decide to make one. I’m sharing it as an idea for those of you working on your holiday builds!
Thanks for sharing @Wenbare. I love painting my build and you surely did well. November will be a very busy month for me. Hopefully I can find some times to build.
You have done such a great job with it all. .
Thank you so much, @Tricia12! I’m not an expert, but I try my best. I hope that even though it’s a busy month, you can still take some time for yourself and keep building.
That paint looks cool! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it
Its so interesting to see the old version of this kit, i completed the new one and it was much much simplier! I like the colour your painted the little yellow drawers too!
Thank you, @Nectarines! I wasn’t sure if this was an old or a new version. From the way the furniture is assembled, I already suspected it was the old version (which I actually like, no complaints here haha), but someone in the Facebook group was absolutely convinced that the kit I had was the new one, so I was a bit unsure . Thanks for solving the mystery!
I’m always in awe of anyone who customises their kits as it takes so much work and creativity! Especially with painting lol feels like risky business to me but you made it look really nice hahaha can’t wait to see it all finished.
Thank you! I was thinking of giving this kit an old and magical touch. At first, I wanted it to be Kiki’s witch emporium from the movie, but now I’m imagining it as her emporium passed down through generations of witches hehehh
