Today is day 3 on the London Travel Marble Run. I am going with the faux stone finish I previously used when making the Tower Bridge and Big Ben. To create the stone look, I first painted all pieces with khaki. My second step was to add a few drops of chocolate brown to my khaki. I then pour it into a small container and use a 1-inch piece of a kitchen sponge to create the look. I lightly dab it in the paint, then dab off any excess and randomly dab it onto the pieces. For this one, I then added a tiny bit of white to my original khaki color and repeated the previous step. Progress is slow on this one because it’s hard to imagine where pieces go. I will say that the blond “witch” on the “broomcycle” is quite trendy with her full-on motorcycle gear and pink leather suit. She is even wearing knee pads…LOL! ![]()
Thank you for sharing your painting skills @nita, it already looks fantastic! Who knows, I might be able to use your tips for my next builds ![]()
Don’t be afraid to try different things for different patterns. @Liset I have used everything from makeup remover pads to foil to mini rollers to Q tips for dabbing. ALWAYS experiment on wood if possible. It dries much faster than if doing so like on a piece of posterboard. Paper towels! I even played around with those…LOL! An old knitted sweater, I’ve done it.
I really value your thoughts, that’s the spirit of a true DIY crafter. ![]()
Thanks! I just love doing these amazing puzzles created by ROKR and I want to accentuate as many details as I can. The creators took time to plan them…and I intend to show them as much as I can @Robotime. I love sharing my ideas as well.
I don’t know what the load-bearing capacity of this bridge is, but I think putting some small figures on the bridge and placing it next to the fish tank should be a good choice!
Blue has a very elegant feel. Purple might also be good.
Wow, this is amazing! I’m so glad to see your update again, and you even thoughtfully included some helpful tips. I absolutely love how you share your insights like this. Please don’t stop posting—I’ll definitely keep following you!
Fish tank? Where would that be? DO tell! @Inorg
Thank you so much for your kind words. I want to help others reach their full potential in being creative. I am always learning @kassy
Your faux stone finish technique sounds amazing — the layered khaki, brown, and white dabbing really gives it that realistic depth ![]()
It’s super inspiring to hear your step-by-step process. And haha, the “witch on the broomcycle” in pink leather with knee pads sounds like such a fun detail — I can already picture her zooming through London in style ![]()
Can’t wait to see more progress on this build, especially how the stone texture turns out in the final look! ![]()
It’s great to see your progress on the London Travel Marble Run! I’m sure your final piece will be a masterpiece. Looking forward to seeing the next steps!
She is in the picture, if you zoom in @Linda Yes, she has a bit of purple…as ‘witches’ often do.
Thanks @cheomu . The pics pretty much show the final look..not very noticeable…but to me…it matters.
Your technique of layering khaki, chocolate brown, and white with a sponge is so inventive—bold, creative, and beautifully executed. ![]()
Haha you use everything you can find in your house
thanks for sharing your tips @Nita_Davis
I absolutely do. Every model is an experiment waiting to happen. @Liset
Thank you very much @Yoki . It is all an experimental process …with each new build.
Loving the progress on your London Marble Run! Keep the updates coming—it’s great to see you experimenting with colors. Can’t wait to see the finished masterpiece!
Thank you so much for your encouragement. This is a tough one to figure out as far as painting goes. Pretty much just painting as I go… @Tiffany
