The original design had a printout with a white wall and grey looking tiles for the back. I’m customising this kit so I’ve ditched the wallpaper and repainted the whole thing. I really wanted to try something new. ![]()
So here is what I’ve been busy with the last few days! My feature brick wall!
I had initially planned for thicker bricks, but the scale didn’t look quite right so I slimmed things down. I think it looks much more harmonious now. I also realised this is the back wall of the building, so you’ll never see the bricks unless you turn it around.
But I’m so happy with it and can’t wait to incorporate it in my final build.
I knew my hoarding would come in handy one day. These are some of the sandpapers I’ve collected from all the kits I’ve made. I used an old paintbrush and coated them with a first layer of brown.
It honestly didn’t look very promising but I told myself to trust the process and added another layer of lighter brown once the first coat was dry.
I then used a cleaning sponge to dab areas of bronze all over.
The last step was adding some white here and there. I honestly wasn’t sure which colours would work best. I googled photos of bricks, read a few guides and went with my instinct using whatever colours I had on hand.
Look at my bricks!
I’m quite happy and proud of how they turned out.
I especially love the fact that they’re actually textured due to the coarse nature of the sandpaper. It’s a nice substitute for egg cartons.
And here’s me with my shot glass, mixing up some paint for the grout. I think I wanted something a little less dark but colour mixing isn’t my strongest suit, so I settled for grey. I figured it would look like cement.
I hope you enjoyed my brick-making process!
I’ll return to building all the tiny details over the next few days. ![]()
