This was my first ROKR, in 2022. I fell in love with the nostalgic look and that it could actually play records!
I got my first kit during a difficult time in my life, when I had lost my ‘spark’—that sense of joy in the things I used to love.
Opening the Rolife kit gave me a glimmer of hope. Creating something so small yet so beautiful reignited a little light inside me. It became something I could add to bit by bit, allowing me to be fully present in the moment. I truly feel that Rolife helped me rediscover my spark, and I’m always in my happy place whenever I’m working on a kit.
The “Little Performer” was my First Kit. It is a music box.
I bought it as a birthday gift for my sister.
I grew-up in my Grandfathers Cabinet Shop. Wood working and wood tools were friends I grew to know well.
I had no doubt that I could build this model with the knowledge I have of model building and wood working, but I also thought it being something NEW it would provide a challenge.
AND there was the added FUN of; I could “taunt” my Little Sis about “I have something, something I’m making”, “you will love it”, you know, anything I can think of to keep her wondering… lol
I have “Made her Stuff” my whole life, so she will wonder and anticipate whatever it could be.
The build Did turn out to be a challenge not so much to build but to make it function perfect. I knew sis would play it over and over so it had to be perfect. She lives over a 1000 miles away so I wouldn’t be able to repair any problem.
I Took a few weeks to make it and taunt sis. After I learned about Vaseline as a lube everything kinda came together. The windup movement had more than enough power to make the Cello bow go back and forth since there was very little friction using the Vaseline. I could also add extra lube for the gears to pickup, since I knew it would be needed over time.
Unfortunately I didn’t take pictures of the build process or the finish Robot. ![]()
I just packed it up and sent it off to Sis. It was already going to be a couple of days late do to shipping.
So this is a stock photo I played with using AI.
There was ONE problem with the build… ![]()
It made my nieces, mom, and girlfriend Ask me to make them a Music Box.
I was hooked, it was Fun to build and make work and there were MANY music boxes to choose from.
The FUN began.
It looks like you picked a very detailed one for your first build.
Very nice job.
I’ve seen this a few times on ebay. I think it would be fun one to paint.
Awesome that you can share this hobby with your family.
I know what you mean. I just started this hobby a few months ago, and am already hooked. I like to go very slow and enjoy the build.
The greater the challenge the greater the sense of accomplishment.
Nice job. I just got Kathy’s flower house and am really looking forward to working on all the little details.
Did you paint this, or was it already colored?
I started on YouTube also. Watching others do a build gave me the confidence to try it myself.
You have a really nice collection.
This looks cool and it looks like it’s multipurpose too. I think I need one for my desk.
Is this Rolife? It’s my first time to see this. It looks so cool and so much cooler that it’s a music box.
I’m so glad that you have found your spark with Robotime
you chose a very beautiful and relaxing hobby. It has also become my happy place.
Beautiful build
perfect for book lovers
This was the first ROKR product I built. I remember once walking past a model shop and seeing three cute moving models displayed in the window. These three models had an amusement park theme — they were really beautiful, and I thought they would be a perfect fit for my miniature figures. So I bought them right away.
When I got home to assemble them, I spent a lot of time painting and also added some elements related to my idol Keung To, turning it into a unique creation of my own.
