📖 [Rolife Journey] Slow Start, but the Poinsettia Has Begun!

I finally started my Poinsettia today… and honestly, the fact that I woke up almost at noon says everything about how much I need the Christmas holidays. After a full day of correcting work and starting reports, my brain just couldn’t take any more, so I waited until the evening to sit down and build a little.

Once I saw how pretty the kit is, I decided I had to paint the edges. It just looks so much better than leaving the raw wood, so out came my markers. Painting the borders ended up taking me longer than building the flower itself, but I love how it’s turning out. I also saw that @tkaplan painted the stamens yellow and I absolutely want to copy that because it looks amazing. The only problem? My yellow marker completely disappears on the wood :smiling_face_with_tear:

Tomorrow I’ll think of a solution; maybe I’ll grab some paint and give those tips a couple of brush strokes so they actually show up. For now I painted them green, and it’s fine, but I really think that yellow or a touch of red in the center makes it look much more natural.

I’ve finished one of the three flowers, and since I’m now obsessed with figuring out the stamens, I’m stopping here for today. After another round of reports tomorrow, I’ll sit down and finish the rest.

I’m really enjoying this build, it’s doing exactly what I needed: helping my brain switch off while I do the little click-clicks and paint the details. This makes me so happy :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:.

P.D: By the way, I’m absolutely hooked on the OST of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 while building. @JDisaduck, you mentioned you enjoy video games too, right?? This is another one I recommend endlessly. It’s beautiful in every way

That’s so funny that you mentioned listening to a game OST while you build… My number 1 listened to album on my Spotify warped this year was the Skyrim soundtrack! :see_no_evil_monkey::rofl: It’s so nice listening to nice chill atmospheric music while you build! I’ve also heard really good things about Expedition 33, but I have yet to play it, have been too busy building and reading to play games lately! Your poinsettia is look great so far btw..

Seriously??? I love that!!! I haven’t played Skyrim myself, but the OST is incredible and I listen to it too. I play this one on YouTube, so it doesn’t show up on my Spotify :see_no_evil_monkey:. I have to admit, I listen to a loooot of video game music, but then half the time I haven’t actually played the games. It’s funny because I know the songs, just not what they belong to sometimes :joy:.
And thank you! heheh

I actually just found out that there’s a setting on Spotify to have a private session so that what your listening to doesn’t mess with your algorithm!! It’s pretty handy! I do have to say, before I found that out, listening to all that Skyrim music did mess with my algorithm… I usually listen to a lot of EDM so when my discover playlist was all video game music, I was a little bummed. The Oblivion soundtrack is also really good, all composed by Jeremy Soule just like the Skyrim one!!

Oh! I didn’t know that! Thanks for the info! Honestly, I don’t even know why I keep listening to this OST on YouTube when I could easily play it on Spotify. I don’t really care about the algorithm, I listen to everything, and then it tells me I’ve gone through 300 different music genres in a year :joy:.
On YouTube I just find chill music or videogame chill music much more easily, and it works great when I don’t know what I’m in the mood for. The Zelda OST gets a lot of play from me too, for example, and there’s also a channel called Blue Turtle that I love.

Thank you, @Nita_Davis!! I’m really happy that you’re also enjoying your comfort zone right now. I think we both really needed it .

Yeah, I could see how YouTube would be easier to find mixes. I usually only listen to the Skyrim soundtrack . I’m also a huge fan of the game, so I’ll sit there and build, and picture the parts of the game the music reminds me of! It’s a full experience.:rofl:

On a side note, I think the yellow was a beautiful touch so I hope you find your marker soon. :face_holding_back_tears:

Looking great so far. I tend to have a show on while building. It’s relaxing.

That’s also a great way to build!! I devour k-dramas and anime, but I need subtitles for those. So it’s either I watch the show or I build, there’s no in-between. When I crochet, though, I can watch subtitled shows; doing both at once is a learned art :joy:.

Omg do we share the same DNA? I don’t crochet but otherwise we have similar hobbies and interests! :face_holding_back_tears:

I’m terrible at games too, so yes, I think we share that :joy:

Hahaha that’s why I only play cozy games or turn-based at best.

I have a long list of shows I will never catch up tho.

I tend to choose the dub version so at least I don’t have to read the subtitles but can just listen.

I play hard games anyway, we’re here to have fun/die after all :joy::joy:. I even finished Hollow Knight. Silksong is on pause for now because it’s insanely hard, but I’m giving it a try.

In my case, if I put on the dubbed version of k-dramas I just can’t, the Latin dub sounds so strange to me, I can’t handle it :joy::joy:
And honestly, I really prefer watching them in the original language anyway hehe.
