On Saturday, August 22, I held my very first meetup as a Robotime Pre Ambassador at the River Oaks Community Centre in Oakville, Ontario, Canada! A fantastic group came together to explore kits, swap creative ideas, and spend a relaxing afternoon making connections.
The venue was ideal, the room offered plenty of space to move around, with big tables where everyone could comfortably lay out all their tools, kits, and supplies. I couldn’t have asked for a better setup to host this event!
I’ll admit I was a little nervous at first, but as soon as everyone settled in, my teaching background kicked into gear, and everything flowed naturally from there.

The energy in the room was buzzing with excitement right from the start. First-timers felt eager to try something new, while returning builders brought a sense of familiarity, knowing the brand and quickly getting into the flow of the day. We welcomed a wonderful mix of skill levels, from total beginners to more experienced crafters. Interestingly, many attendees recognized Rolife products from store shelves but had held back from purchasing out of fear of the unknown—wondering if the assembly would be too difficult. This meetup provided the perfect, pressure-free environment to jump in, and so many fell in love with the process just like I did!
As everyone dove in, lively conversations filled the room. Participants gushed over how pretty, cute, and detailed the kits are, all agreeing on how deeply satisfying it is to punch out the wooden pieces. Conversations naturally drifted to other creative hobbies like crocheting, and many builders completely surprised themselves with what they were able to achieve.
One of my absolute favorite highlights was watching those classic “aha!” moments happen. You know the feeling—when you’re staring at a step, the instructions feel upside down, and you can’t figure out how two pieces connect. Then, suddenly, it clicks! You turn the piece around or press it in a bit tighter, and it snaps into place. Having experienced that exact triumph myself, seeing their faces light up was pure joy.
When I was busy helping individual builders, people working on similar kits naturally turned to one another across the tables, comparing notes and troubleshooting together. They chatted about upcoming school routines, shared summer vacation stories, and two attendees even realized they go to the exact same gym! It was heartwarming to see those connections spark, we weren’t just building kits; we were forming memories.
Throughout the event, introducing everyone to the online Robotime Community was a natural part of the conversation. While I reassured participants that there was no rush and that they could easily finish their builds at home, it was wonderful to see so many complete their projects before the day was over! Whenever builders had questions about taking their kits home, I shared everything the Robotime website has to offer—highlighting the digital manuals, helpful tips and tricks, and the amazing community space where they can show off their finished creations and get advice. I even helped a few participants navigate the site right on the spot, which was a true pleasure!
Before we wrapped up, participants were already asking when the next meetup would be, excited to invite friends who would love the experience. Seeing everyone beam with pride over their completed builds and watching new local friendships form made me happy. I was thrilled to share my passion for this hobby, and I am honored to represent Robotime as an Ambassador.
