I wanted to try this set because I’ve always enjoyed puzzle boxes and tinkering with things.
This box contains three main mechanical features. A codeable combination lock, mechanical trap door and a spiral chamber in the lid.
The most challenging part of building was coding the combination lock. I recommend testing your combination several times before installing to make sure you have it aligned properly.
The box is rated at 4/5 difficulty. Mostly because of the coding aspect. I didn’t think it was extremely difficult to understand. I was able to figure it out using simple trial and error.
People who enjoy mechanics, math and general tinkering will probably appreciate this puzzle box. The box does not use batteries or music, it all moves by hand. Took about two hours to complete. Good solid construction. No mechanical issue to report.
I’m thinking about painting it. I have extra paint left from my paint-by-numbers and I was thinking I wanted to recreate the mosaic tree root design from the lower half of the painting.
I’m not sure though. I’m still in the early design stages. I’m not a super experienced painter so I would be kind of improvising it.

Oh this looks really cool and a smart design! I haven’t really dabbled into ROKR kits but maybe I should one day
I like your paint by numbers colour scheme so I hope you’ll paint it and post it here!

This is really cool, thanks for sharing so many detailed photos of the design!
I hope you do paint it!
i would love to see!

This was definitely a cool model for me. One of the first few that I did so I did not paint it. At this point, I don’t think I will. It’s so much easier to do them before assembly. Nice job!

That looks incredible! Painting it with that mosaic tree root idea sounds beautiful; I think it would make the box even more unique!

Rolife and ROKR kits always exceed my expectations. I would absolutely recommend trying some of the ROKR kits because are great quality.
That is a very smart design. I would consider trying this out one day.

Thank you for sharing your experience with this!
The more I build with Robotime, the more I realize I do love mechanics and how all those parts come together and make things work. What I’m more “scared” about the parts that fold themselves and can easily break.

Those make me nervous too. 90% they install just fine. It takes more to break those then you think. Of corse you still want to be careful.
Exactly!
But I’ve gotta say, now that I’m through the Dream Gift Factory process, I find those pieces less fragile than the ones I used in the Seahorse Barque. Maybe that depends on the build? Or the thickness of the piece?

Definitely. Some builds are more fragile. The treasure box I recently did was really thick and solid. But I’ve done ones with more visual detail and those sometimes require thinner cuts of wood to look proportional.
Rolife is good about giving you extras on some things.

Even the Sakura Dream tour I am building the wood are thick. But some other small kits, the wood are smaller.
That is a lot bigger than I thought it was. I like the fact that you can set you own code on it.
