Hello,
Here is My second design and so far My best and most favorite !
I always wanted to have a wooden ship but cheap kits are very hard to build.
This set is easy to follow and that small ornament help to practice cutting out parts before You brake something on the ship
I learn that cutting connections with a scalpel from back side help to prevent braking off wood and after that I cut from top side in same locations without damage any parts.
WARNING !! doing this is not recommended for someone that don’t have practice or young builders
I’m not good in painting like some pro designers here but Im good in electronic that’s why I focus more on lights
I added 150:1 street lanterns on deck and 100:1 lanterns on back of ship to give it more lights.
Under deck I have 3 small flame simulating lights and 2 bigger fire lights inside back of ship.
Fire simulating lights are optional and can be turn on by opening cannons with bot where I use limit switch with roller that is activated by central part of cannons motion.
Here is a link to video from testing lights:
Right now ship wait for display case and will be My pride
@Adrian202 the custom lighting on your Seahorse Barque is incredible, especially the flame effects and the cannon-activated switch idea. The cutting tip from the back side is also a thoughtful note for experienced builders. This really feels like a display-piece build.
Those of us that have done this kit understand the hard work! I wish I would have put lights inside though. I need more detailed as to how this was done? More info on the lights themselves, how they look, how they turn on, etc
I use dc power supply 5v 1A and for lanterns resistor value is best to check minimum and see what work best for You.
Deck lights use 330 Ohm resistors same as back ones but if I would know 100:1 lanterns are brighter than I would use higher resistor like 480 Ohm to dim it a bit.
Candle fire simulation lights work on 5v so they are connected without resistor thru that limit switch under deck.
I have 5.5x2.1mm socket in ship base and from there I have short extension with a switch to cut off power from ship and longer extension with power supply after so I can select length of cable.
Sadly after I finish building ship I got My sound modules and one of sounds is a grenade explosion sound that repeats and if I remember have light that blink with sound and I would use that to add sound to it.
Oh well maybe next time
Well it looks awesome! I may need to go with fairy lights which run on battery and can have a timer. This may work better byt will see. Some lights come with a remote to turn off and on. That may come in handy with some of these!
My initial idea was to use inductive touch sensor where You would touch spot on deck and sensor under it would trigger lights on but than I think that i already have switch in for of boat so i went with that.
Battery powered light’s will also work or just use powerbank with 5v output.
Remote control light may need more space due to big electronic or some will use infrared so You will need to have visual connection between remote and IR receiver but it should work thru back windows or hind it next to cannon
Thanks! I will have to really look but you have some great ideas which gives me things to further look into. I hate that my pirates do not show up unless I hold a flashlight to the back!
With light inside You will see them.
You could also replace that plastic with clear one from laminating machine, that’s what I use on RC cars but I put it thru once to make it clear.
Now I have clear sheets use to separate documents or something but I did now want to show inside.
I would post links to what I use but it’s not Robotime parts so I don’t want to brake any rules here.
But You can try searching for LED candle filament
