so, as most of you know I have several kits at home now (cuckoo clock, harp, telescope) and some others still on their way.
I really wanted to build something today, so I entered all kits (also the ones that still have to arrive) in a draw app. And luckily for me it selected one that I have at home at the moment: the Monocular Telescope.
I was glad with the choice because I think it is a rather quick build, but definitely satisfying to do. I also didn’t have too much time to build today and tomorrow I also have some other plans. But I think I can finish this kit as well.
So today I almost did half of the steps with the following result
It’s quite easy to build. The only thing I did struggle with was the leather sleeve in the front. Once it’s over all of the ends, it is not that hard, but to get there I could have used an extra hand to make it easier .
There are not a lot of tips to give. The only thing that I thought was important: just read the manual very carefully. There are a lot of repeating steps and it clearly states where you should be extra careful with the pieces or where exactly it needs to be attached. So all in all if you follow the instructions very closely, you should be all right .
Tomorrow I might finish this kit. I will just have to see when I can do it exactly because I have some household chores to finish first .
If you got some black paper, and it’s not too late I’d advise to roll some and add some into each section, this way it’s fully dark inside and it improves the vision because no light get through the wooden sides!
Unfortunately that was too late. But apparently it is only a little disturbing at one piece of the telescope, so if you hold your hands there it also isn’t that bad.
Besides, how much would I actually use it .
Great tip though for anyone who still needs to make it, so thanks for sharing!
I would recommend building it. It’s one you can do quickly in between other kits if you would like. The 12 steps are rather easy and don’t take that much time.
It does work. But of course it is not the same as a real telescope.
I think we always need to keep in mind that although some kits have features of the real thing, it still is wood and more for decorative purposes instead of actually using it.
Yes she did indeed. I loved her painted version as well. I chose not to paint this one because I liked the way it looked with just the dark and light wood.
Oh you can look forward to building this one . It’s not the most challenging or fun kit. Like @Liset said in her post, most of the steps are repetitive, you definitely need to do a lot of the same thing.
But nonetheless, it is satisfying to see it come to life piece by piece. And for me it works like a charm. The magnifying glass is retractable and you can detach it from the tripod at any time. The legs of the tripod can be pushed inward so it can be transported without issues. And you actually have a clear vision, but I don’t know if it is really 150 meter like the box states.
Either way, it is enough for me. Since it is mainly for decorative purposes, I think it is good the way it is
