I am on a roll today! I’ve been working on a transmission model called Star Workshop, and this one surprised me right out of the box. It actually came with two acrylic markers for painting edges, which I thought was such a nifty bonus. The instructions only called for certain pieces to be painted, so I used the markers there and stuck with my usual brown furniture marker for the rest.
I made it all the way to the first operational test and had a tiny moment of concern when it made a bit of noise. After a closer look, I found one of the gears wasn’t seated tightly enough. A quick adjustment fixed it, and now it runs so smoothly it honestly just purrs.
There’s something really satisfying about these mechanical builds when everything lines up and works the way it’s supposed to. It feels like a little win every time a fix actually works.
Do you enjoy troubleshooting these kinds of builds when something doesn’t work right away, or do you prefer when everything just works straight out of the box?
@Kim_Kieffer wow look at the beautifull colors already ! I love the pink and purple im thinking about buying a mechanical build … and challange myself !
Kim_Kieffer, that is such a satisfying fix, and I love that the Star Workshop came with those acrylic markers as a bonus. Finding that loose gear and getting it back to a smooth little purr is exactly the kind of build victory that feels extra sweet. I am definitely in the enjoy troubleshooting camp, especially when the end result is this rewarding!
Wise words, indeed ! I always do a power test before I start building anything on all components if possible. I do appreciate that a lot of the instructions and this one included do have steps that should be taken to do a proper power test before you start building. It is always so sad when I read a post where someone has a power problem and they forgot or didn’t know.
