Well, hello there! This will be my first (but not last, hopefully) post here. I’ve always been interested in building models but I never really started, mostly because most places you look around bring you all those cozy big ones (most of them war-related,a topic I’m not really into) you’ll mostly need glue to assemble. I hate glue!
But then I randomly found out about Robotime, Rokr, Rolife, all this amazing “build it yourself by putting pieces together, no glue ever needed” world… And I instantly fell in love with it!
I’m quite a sea and ships lover specially when we talk about pirates, so even after reading that it was quite a complicated one, I’ve decided to start my Robolife journey with the stunning Seahorse Barque. I bought it through Amazon, I knew nothing about the community and it took me a while to build it (I like to go slow with it, one or two steps (step = one numbered section of the manual) a day before going to bed and not every day in the week), but I made it! And man, how proud I am! It’s absolutely beautiful.
I did have some issues, maybe because of my inexperience, such us:
Those “you can carefully bend me and you’ll actually have to” pieces are SO delicate, I actually broke two of them by just adding a little bit of pressure over them. One was pretty easy to fix, the other one (the golden one over the thing on the very back of the ship) was quite the annoying thing, but a little drop of instant glue was my unexpected friend there
The masts were a bit trickier than I expected to “stick” on the deck, I was afraid I was gonna break it! Nothing bad happened though
I was literally unable to fix the golden fins of the golden seahorse figurehead, am I alone here? So they’re just hanging there lol
I was worried about what I like to call “the sew the sails process”. I actually had fun and it was easier than expected, although some of the ends of the cords are just hanging there and I’m not sure how to avoid that from the final image or how to properly tie them with my huge fingers lol
Either way, I’m loving how it looks! And now… Dream Factory, I’m coming for you.
Welcome to the community. I think I used a little glue for the seahorse at the front. With the rope for the sails on some points there are little slots where you can put the rope in and it keeps tension on the rope that way and then you can cut the excess rope
Welcome to the community, @TheToday ! It’s so great to have you here! Your post was such a joy to read — I could really feel your excitement and love for this new hobby. Starting with the Seahorse Barque is a bold (and awesome!) choice, but you did an amazing job despite the challenges.
Those little tricky parts get easier with every build, and I totally get what you mean about the delicate pieces — we’ve all been there! Can’t wait to see your Dream Factory next; you’re going to love it!
I am thinking you did a beautiful job! This is such an incredible kit and I think with each one we do, we get better and wiser. There are alot of great posts about your next choice. Many have already completed that. Please feel free to reach out and ask if you need any assistance. This group is awesome and oh so helpful!
