I finally finished the book nook I got from my daughter for Father’s Day. This is a kit made by Vorathis. I have never seen this one before so I was excited to get working on it.
The details on this really are amazing. So many things to look at which is what I love about kits. Details that nobody else can see and can see. This one didn’t skimp on the amount of things to put in here.
The modifications I made : I 3d printed a wee little dinosaur who got caught in the museum after dark. His name is Ralph,
Nobody has caught him yet! But why would they he’s just visiting his homies.
I painted the visible edges on this like normal and used a furniture pen on the bare wood parts. Lots of wooden elements on this so I didn’t want to distract from the view.
The bad: the parts are as fragile as anything I have ever done. Very delicate and small. So much care had to be taken to separate parts from the frame. Also the acrylic pieces are the worst. They were so thin I actually broke two pieces that were not fixable. Of course there wasn’t any spare parts on this so I just had to do without them. Hopefully they aren’t visible. Next the parts were so tight to fit into each other. I had to sand every tab to make sure they fit correctly. Even the acrylic parts.
Luckily the kit came with a Thor Hammer to help with this. I always feel powerful holding that thing lol
The instructions were atrocious. Mostly pictures and arrows and I had to guess on orientation on many parts and placement. Maybe they expect me to be a mind reader. And maybe I am in order to get this one done. (I’m reading your mind now… your going to upvote this post..)
The lighting was standard led strips which worked out good. Powered by a battery box and also usb c. Which is really cool actually. I found that I had to glue a lot of Parts together than was needed or necessary. But I finished it.
I’m so proud of my daughter for thinking about me in getting me this. She’s pretty awesome would I recommend this one? Honestly. No. It’s not worth the headache especially after being used to the other quality kits out there (looking at you @Robotime) thanks for watching and looking and supporting and being kind. Love this community cause of you all.
This turned out amazing! Ralph the dinosaur made me smile — what a perfect little story to add to the scene. Great job, and thanks for sharing the honest review too!
Congratulations on finishing it! Even with all those challenges, you still turned it into something special. I especially loved Ralph the little dinosaur hiding in the museum. That tiny customization gave the whole scene so much personality! And what a thoughtful Father’s Day gift from your daughter. I’m glad you were able to create such a memorable build, even if it tested your patience along the way.
I really enjoyed reading your review because you covered both what you loved and what gave you trouble. Ralph is a fun little addition, and I had to smile at the idea of him wandering the museum after dark. Congratulations on sticking with such a challenging build and getting it across the finish line!
Oh my gosh, Ralph is adorable. Well done on completing this with thin wood and dodgy instructions. Sorry, no upvotes here but I might find you on reddit later.
