I accidentally chipped a small piece while building. At first, I just stared at it thinking, Please tell me that didn’t just happen…" Thankfully, it’s a tiny chip and won’t be very noticeable once everything is assembled. But it reminded me of something I’ve learned from this hobby:
Perfection isn’t the goal—progress is.
Every builder has those moments. A chipped piece, a broken tab, glue where it shouldn’t be, or that heart-stopping feeling when a tiny part disappears onto the floor. Instead of getting frustrated, I’ve learned to pause, find a solution, and keep going. Sometimes the “mistake” isn’t even visible in the finished build, and other times it becomes part of the story behind it.
This hobby has taught me that patience, creativity, and a little problem-solving can fix almost anything.
What’s the biggest “oops” you’ve had while building, and how did you save it? I’d love to hear your rescue stories!
Hahaha, I can relate! I always say every builder eventually becomes an expert at “creative repairs.” Sometimes the best customizations start with an accidental break!
Sometimes no matter how gentle or patient you are accidents happen. My most recent build was going really well until l realised i had a piece in upside down. Long story short broke a piece while deconstructing… solution buy a replacement part this broken part couldnt be repaired due to where the break is.
I’ve done that before. I repair it as best that I can and then find a paint marker in a similar colour and fix it. It happens. In the end; these tiny little mistakes are often not noticeable in the finished product.
@MamaNheza Thanks for sharing. We’ve all had the chipped parts or broken tabs. Stops your heart, makes your curse or you can breathe and focus and resolve it. Glad you have chosen to keep patient. Took me a long time and experience to know that not everything in a build is a stopper. You can always do what you know how to fix, hide or resolve it. Nothing is ever permanent really.
@MamaNheza a tiny chip can feel enormous in the moment, but your response captures one of the best building lessons: pause, solve what matters, and keep the whole project moving. The repair stories in this thread are a reassuring reminder that creativity often begins exactly where perfection stops.
@Grey74 the idea that not every accident is a build stopper comes from valuable experience. Knowing when to repair, hide, adapt, or simply continue can turn that first moment of panic into another ordinary problem-solving step.
That’s so true. Sometimes accidents happen no matter how careful we are. It’s frustrating in the moment, but I admire how you found a solution and kept going. Hopefully the replacement part arrives soon so you can get back to enjoying the build!
I couldn’t agree more. Some of the best building lessons come from those unexpected mistakes. They remind us that creativity isn’t about being perfect,it’s about adapting, finding solutions, and enjoying the journey just as much as the finished build.
