Last night was all about the cannons and gunport build. I painted the cannons even though most of them will be hidden, because details matter and I love adding those little layers that give everything more depth.
The gunport area and plates are mostly flat black, but I laid down a thick dark brown on the plates to bring out the effect of wood grain and make them look worn with age and battle. I painted the rings in brass and highlighted the raised emblem in gold so they really stand out like proper ship hardware.
The gunport planks got a dark brown base so I can age them out later. The cannons themselves got a flat steel grey base, then a gunship grey wash to bring out the shadows. I highlighted the raised parts with my silver chrome pen and added dark green and rust tones around the tips and joints to give them that aged, sea-worn look.
I used enamel paint on the plastic pieces for that tougher, more realistic finish. Even if most of it will be hidden inside the hull, I know it’s there, and that makes the build feel even more special.
So far so good. Slowly bringing this ship to life, one cannon at a time.

and I have the build!! but I love how you made it look real if that makes sense!! bcs instead of being shiny gold you coloured them to look more old?? rust slowly infiltrating them?? and that made them look real and I absolutely love that!! kuddos to you

Thank you @Nita_Davis I am stuck waiting for my Enamel paint to fully dry before I start doing more. This slow build will definitely be one for displaying. I might also change the sails into white canvas/ mix and match.

I love aging out plastic models, the effects really takes any flat coloured items on the next level. Since I build these things quite fast, this is my way of truly taking more time to slow it down and practice my art

I honestly thought of doing one from scratch, I think, I know that I can but also I like having the kits and just customizing if I want to.
I would love to make more of just landscapes… almost like movie sets in miniatures. Like the scene on the Pride and Prejudice 2005 with Kiera Knightly where she was standing on the edge of a cliff or the Gazebo/structure where Mr. Darcy first confessed his feelings… something like that lol

I personally struggle to think outside the box so I alway follow instructions.
