I had an awesome time building this non-Rolife Ice Rink! It was one of those projects that kept getting more fun as I worked on it, especially once the moving skaters and lighting started coming together.
This build did have one unexpected setback. During one of my power tests I discovered the fairy light string was defective, so I had to pause the project and wait almost a month for a replacement part. Thankfully I had caught the problem early and hadn’t glued everything permanently, so taking it back apart was much easier than it could have been. Once the replacement arrived, every light worked perfectly, the music played, and all six skaters were finally gliding around the rink.
One thing I really liked is that the kit gives you a choice between building a Christmas scene or a general winter scene. I decided to go with the winter version because I think I’ll enjoy displaying it longer without it feeling tied to the Christmas season. The double-sided trees make that choice easy.
I painted every exposed edge before assembly, and I think it makes a big difference in the finished model. I also added a light dusting of fine iridescent glitter to the snowy trees to give them a little extra sparkle without overpowering the scene.
One thing that surprised me was that this was one of those rare builds where I didn’t have a single part left over when I finished!
I also thought this kit was a really good value for the price. Between the moving skaters, music, lighting effects, and all of the winter details, it feels like a lot of model for the money.
I don’t choose a product by the season, only by my interest in having it when the Price Is Right. I love that you have taken the time to paint your edges and this one turned out beautifully
Wow, this ice rink is incredible! When I saw the first photo, I thought it was a music box. I was expecting the little skaters on the ice to spin around!
The whole scene has such a magical winter feeling. I love it so much!
Very nice @Kim_Kieffer! Watching the skaters is kind of relaxing, and it gives off that holiday vibe (which I really like even if it probably isn’t good for me because it will just make me want to take a looong break ).
I’ve never seen this kit before so it was very cool to see the finished build! I usually just choose what kit to build based on how I feel, not necessarily by season.
It turned out beautifully! I love that you chose the winter version because it makes the display something you can enjoy all season long. Painting the edges and adding a touch of iridescent glitter were such thoughtful finishing touches, and I’m so glad the replacement lights solved the issue. Watching the skaters glide around the rink must have made the wait completely worth it. Congratulations on another fantastic build!

That delay must have been so frustrating, but testing the wiring before final gluing was total genius—such a great reminder for the rest of us! It looks fantastic all lit up, and seeing all six skaters moving must be so satisfying after that wait! Amazing job powering through! Painting the exsposed edges was great ..
