[Pro Tips] [Product Review] DH 103 Pagestory Books

I am grateful to Robotime for allowing me the opportunity to build and review this kit.

With total of 993 pieces (including 31 scrolls and 181 books), this kit is classed Advanced with 5 out of 6 star difficulty.
The manual contains 58 pages.
The estimated time for completion is 25 hours.
I decided to change the colour scheme!

All parts are well labelled and the instructions are very clear in the manual.
There are 3 pages of stickers!! Two of them just for books.

The first half of the instructions have you building furniture.
There are many different types of cupboards and book shelves to make and I love the variety.
My favourite was definitely the dresser with the gold feet that is eventually placed on the side of the build.
Then comes making all of the paintings and the plants.

I have a love/hate relationship with plants. I love the look of them but I hate making them. I had enormous issues with sticking those leaves where they are meant to go.
And then I knocked over the container with all of my little elements and plants!!
After rummaging around to gather everything up, I managed to knock the whole lot down again!
I thought that I had found everything but as luck would have it, when I was vacuuming the next morning, I found a couple of stray pieces that I had missed the night before.

Wire work!! I was concerned about the newspaper stand but I actually did better on that than I thought. It’s a little wonky but looks great. The stools tried my patience, and a lot of different glues. The worst stool is hidden behind a bookshelf ha ha
This is all solely user error and nothing to do with the design. I actually adore the design but couldn’t get it to go the way I wanted.

The kit supplies a small straw to help with the scrolls. I found that putting a toothpick through the straw made rolling it easier. For the other scrolls, I actually rolled them around a toothpick and then cut the toothpick off. This gives it a nice shape.

Pros

  • This is a multilevel build. I love the stair case and the upper reading room with the globe (which was much easier to make than I originally thought it would be).
  • I love the ‘bones’ of this build and can actually see how I could modify this entirely to create something completely different
  • Apart from the wire work, this build is pretty straight forward. My relationship with making plants has nothing to do with the difficulty level.
  • It’s a beautiful kit for taking your time and enjoying the process
  • The pieces were all sturdy, and the thinner pieces did not splinter
  • It’s a great mix of snap together and DIY with lots of gluing involved
  • Glue is included in the kit
  • The battery pack is well hidden at the back and it fits in really well without it falling out.

Cons

  • There is a LOT of gluing. Personally, this doesn’t bother me but it may bother others.
  • The wiring is quite long. I cut my wiring down to make it neater and less bulky.

Really, there is so much to love about this kit. I definitely recommend it to anyone (unless you don’t like making books). The build took me about 35 hours but I was painting and changing the colour scheme.

Thankyou again Robotime for giving me the opportunity to build this.

Thanks so much Jeanne. I must admit that I love the darker wood. I wish I was able to make the purples more of a burgundy colour though.

I love the changes you have made. The stained wood looks so much richer…and the purple shelves give this space pizazz. I keep cocktail sticks near me for all kinds of stuff…and yes, it works great for scrolls. Your wire work turned out amazing. Thanks for sharing a great review!

@Suzanne_Jones 993 pieces, 181 books, stained wood, purple shelves, and the cocktail-stick scroll method make this a genuinely useful review.

@Nita_Davis keeping cocktail sticks nearby is a genuinely useful miniature-building habit. Their fine tip makes them excellent for shaping scrolls and handling glue in tight spaces, and your note helps turn the review into a practical toolbox discussion.
