As an ambassador, I was privileged to be chosen by Robotime to receive and review the amazing Nostalgic Corner Shop back in June.
Getting the box, the first thing that I noticed was how heavy it felt.
At 225 pieces, I knew this was not going to be a quick build. The manual itself is quite thick.
The first step after unpacking the box was checking the lights!
They worked perfectly and I breathed a sigh of relief.
The first step was building the boxes to go on shelves and the little green basket. There are two of these to be made, and I made both at the same time.
I was very impressed with the boxes as they are numbered on the bottom to allow you place them correctly later in the build.
The back wall was the first part of the store to be built and I just loved watching it come together.
I had a few issues with the little green cupboard being a bit loose but a dab of glue held it in place for me.
And OMG - how cute is the Lucky Cat??
The next part of the build was the sweet display cabinet. This certainly took quite a bit of time but it was so rewarding when it all came together.
Quite a bit of DIY involved in this kit, particularly making the products for sale in the store.
Many of these products are hanging inside from coat hangers!
Robotime thoughtfully provided a great little tool to help.
I found that when hanging these in the store during the build, they would often fall off as I moved the build around, so some well placed dabs of glue came in handy.
Another great thing I noted in this kit, were the markings on the stickers to assist in placement.
Now, please don’t do what I did and believe that both lights were of equal length. I was wiring up the inside light and it was too short. I had to completely remove it (thankfully not difficult) and wire in the correct one that fitted much better.
I ran into a little problem when I went to put in the first lot of doors. I had difficulty making them sit in correctly.
What I did, was change around the order of putting them in and didn’t have as many problems.
The build is fairly straightforward and is truly satisfying.
So here are my pros and cons.
Pros
- The kit is a great mix of snap together, 3D and DIY. It’s definitely not a simple build but it is very satisfying.
- The instructions, number marking on boxes, lines on stickers, and the new tool were all well thought out and definitely well received.
- The sliding dust cover doors are da bomb!
- It is cute and colourful
- I love the touch lighting
Cons - The little foam filled packets wouldn’t seal at the sides. This isn’t a big deal but after trying very hard to get the first couple to stick together on the edges, I gave up.
- Some of the slots were too loose for the items to stay in after they were placed. Thank goodness that I never build without having glue on hand.
Overall, I give this kit a score of 9.5 stars out of 10.
Thankyou so much @Robotime for the opportunity to build and review this kit.
