Moomintroll’s Forest Camp: A Tiny Adventure Begins

A little while ago, I received Moomintroll’s Forest Camp as my prize from Robotime’s Graduation Season event. For the contest, I shared one of my favourite memories as a teacher: building the kits Robotime donated to my class last December with my students over several days. There were three special Moomin kits among the prizes, and Forest Camp was the one I was secretly hoping for… so I was very happy when I opened my parcel and found this one inside.

It’s a very small kit, but honestly, it’s adorable. I really enjoyed building it, and I especially love that it includes Moomintroll fishing. He looks ridiculously cute sitting there with his little fishing rod.

The build starts with the tent behind Moomintroll. At first glance it looks quite simple, but the wooden pieces are very thin and delicate. Nothing broke, luckily, but I was definitely being extra careful because I felt that too much pressure could easily damage them.

I really liked the final touch of adding the stickers over the tent and along the front. They give it a much more realistic fabric-like appearance.

Next came one of the little flowers. For the paper pieces, I used a glue stick, which I still find much more useful than double-sided tape for this kind of detail. For the petals, I used a tiny amount of superglue instead because they felt much more secure that way.

I also painted some of the visible edges. I didn’t paint absolutely everything, but I did concentrate on the pieces that would remain noticeable at the front of the finished diorama.

The first section quickly started coming together with the campfire, the little blanket on the ground, the tree in the background and the sign. It’s such a sweet little scene already.

And then Snufkin makes his special appearance! He’s adorable, although I’m a little sad that he has such a small role in this kit and is only a 2D piece. He deserves more attention hahah.

After adding the bridge, the tower in the background and a few more details, I started working on the dome. It’s actually quite simple to assemble, and the curtains at the back fit into place really nicely. The lower decorative piece is also very cute once the sticker is wrapped around it.

The transparent leafy section wasn’t difficult to fit, but mine stayed slightly separated from the back of the dome. I didn’t really like how that looked, so I used some white glue to keep it neatly in place.

I do love that you can still see the mountains behind it and look through into the little scene from the back. For such a tiny kit, there is already so much to look at.

I like how the Moomin kits have different settings - a garden, a campsite and the Moominhouse. It would be nice to have all three specially because the entire collection is so vibrant compared to the usual kits  Thanks for sharing this

Super cool!! Thank you for pointing out the details in this. I haven’t done this particular kit yet but I may …

Such a cute little details. I will start my Moomin around next month I think. Lol

This turned out really cute. I do like the stickers that make the tent look like fabric. Of course my favorite detail is the fishing pole

This is such a sweet little build! Moomintroll fishing is absolutely adorable, and I love how you added your own touches with the edge painting and careful placement of the tiny details. It’s amazing how much character can fit into such a small kit. And I completely agree, Snufkin deserves a bigger role! :joy: The finished scene looks like such a peaceful little Moomin adventure.
