Robotime DIY & Crafting Event Recap

My Robotime DIY & Crafting Event was held on Saturday, June 27 , at the Copperas Cove Public Library from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. , with an additional half hour before and after for setup and cleanup.

I started with 23 people registered, but ultimately had 6 attendees two of which were youngsters. Prior to the event, I sent out reminders through Eventbrite twice, and those who responded were the ones who attended.

Among the attendees were two young builders: Zane (12) and an 11-year-old girl, Lynnette. Both chose to build the Fisherman Gravity Swing. Both of the children did a fantastic job; I was amazed by their talents. Zane successfully completed his model during the event. Congratulations, Zane—fantastic job!

The adult participants selected two Ferris Wheels and two Glittering Water Lillies. One of the Glittering Water Lilies was completed by Zane’s mother, Alyssa. Congratulations to both of you on your completed projects!

As a thank-you for posting about the event and sharing robotime and rolife on a community website, I gave Alyssa a Baby Nanci figure. I had originally planned to hold a drawing for the Fruit Nanci figures, but with the smaller group, I decided to give one to each attendee instead.

The best part of the day wasn’t the attendance—it was the experience. Everyone had a wonderful time building, chatting, sharing tips, and helping one another. The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed, and every participant told me they would love to attend another Robotime crafting event in the future.

Was I disappointed by the turnout? Of course I was!!! Like anyone hosting an event, I had hoped for a larger crowd. However, the enthusiasm, camaraderie, and enjoyment shared by everyone who attended made the event completely worthwhile. Quality truly outweighed quantity. We played a word game also:

Finally, I want to give a special shout-out and a heartfelt thank-you to Rod Freeman for helping with both setup and cleanup. Rod is a talented crafter himself, with skills in woodworking and whittling, and his assistance was greatly appreciated. I couldn’t have done it without his assistance.

Thank you Robotime for allowing me to have this opportunity to REPRESENT this great company,

Harley

It looks like everyone had a wonderful time regardless of the size of the meeting. I hope that you will try hosting another one with the rest of your kits. I’m sure there must be a senior center somewhere near you where some of the older crowd might like to try them

Despite the turnout, it still sounds like it was an amazing event!! Brining crafts together to smile, laugh, craft and have a good time is what it’s all about

Congratulations, Harley! Even with a smaller group, it sounds like such a warm and successful event. Seeing everyone build, help each other, and want to come back again is honestly the best result

The Senior center was where I started. Original event was all set there in May, but then it shut down for a water line break.

I’ve got 14 kits leftover, so yeah, one more try. My 2 older folks came from there, and they think they can get some “friends” to come.

Ohana Ink Shop, that did all my printing, have some folks interested as well. I dontated my ROKR Swing Ride to them and it’s on display… That has inturn brought interest also.

So I’m confident I can use up the balance of the remaining kits.

Thank you Nita.

@Harley thank you for sharing such a full recap of the Copperas Cove event. The smaller turnout clearly still created something meaningful, especially with Zane, Lynnette, Alyssa, and everyone helping each other through their builds. Quality really did shine here, and it is exciting to hear you already have ideas for using the remaining kits.

Congratulations on your very first meetup! It may not have gone the way you had hoped, but you made 6 very happy people and introduced them to a hobby they can enjoy for a lifetime!
Now you can take what you learned and apply it to your next meetup to help make it a fantastic one! :slightly_smiling_face:

@Nita_Davis the senior center idea is such a thoughtful next step, especially since Harley already had interest from a few older attendees. Suggestions like this are exactly how a small meetup can turn into a steadier local crafting circle.
