My long weekend was definitely well spent! I finally decided to open and work on the Steam Journey kit. Classes start tomorrow and this train will definitely be making its way to my son’s room. He has loved Thomas & Friends since he was little and has always been fascinated by trains, especially steam engines.
I really enjoyed building this kit, although, as usual, I ended up with a few broken tiny pieces. A small hammer would have been a huge help during the build. I used up quite a bit of energy pressing the pieces together and making sure everything fit properly.
One thing I wasn’t fond of was the yellow gold stickers. I had a hard time applying them and I ended up tearing some of the thinner ones. Thankfully, a little glue should be enough to fix them and make everything work.
I initially thought the finished model would be quite small, but it turned out to be much longer than I expected and I loved that. The dark red and black color combination looks fantastic and gives the train a classic feel.
This also feels like another first for me. If I’m not mistaken, this is the first kit with wheels that I’ve built, aside from the penny-farthing from the Cheers Bar kit .
Overall, I loved both the building experience and the final result. I’m very happy with how it turned out! Thank you so much @Robotime for this wonderful prize kit!
@Grey74 it looks fantastic also it does look bigger which is nice … the black and red go well ! Thank your for the review and you video was great ! Well done !
@Pola very nice! I am in the middle of building this one right now. I’m glad to see the same frustration you had as I am now lol. Thank you for the review and video!
@Pola this Steam Journey build feels extra sweet knowing it is headed for your son’s room. The Thomas & Friends connection makes the train feel very personal, and your notes about the roof, stickers, and tiny broken pieces will help other builders too.
