…So this is a non-Rolife fantasy city build that’s supposed to be super detailed and magical. It’s got tiny little parts, wooden bits, paper, and (fingers crossed) WIRES…. and LED lights to make it glow.
Why I’m psyched:
It looks incredibly detailed and whimsical, like something out of a magical storybook.
People online say it’s so fun and cute to build, even if it’s tiny.
It’ll make an awesome display piece once finished.
But I do have so many questions:
The instructions seem like they might be a bit confusing and low on detail.
All I can say on this one is “welcome to your worst nightmare”. I don’t even display this one because my Globe broke and I can’t finish it. This is a very very tough kit to do with the lighting. Wishing you the best of luck
This model looks interesting. I’ve assembled a similar model before; it looks complicated, but you won’t have any trouble doing it. It’s just that sometimes the joints and pieces of wood aren’t as perfectly aligned as Rolife’s (maybe I’ve assembled too many Rolife kits and that’s why I think so ). The glue bottle is for sticking the paper, but I recommend using dry glue; this type can easily wet and tear the paper if you’re not careful.
I’ve done this model, and I didn’t find it too hard! Probably the easiest non-Rolife kit I’ve done! A lot of wood popping out. There’s like 8 or so LED’s I think you have to wire, but it’s not too bad if you have the right glue! I can get you some pictures of the finished build if you like!
Oh wow thank you so much for the honesty! I truly appreciate it. That’s exactly what’s making me pause a bit. Hearing about the globe breaking and the lighting issues definitely gives me something to think about. At the same time, part of me is weirdly intrigued by the challenge… even if it means going very slowly and accepting that it may not be perfect. Thank you for the well wishes! I may need all the luck I can get!
Thank you so much for this insight, especially the glue tip! That’s super helpful. I’ve definitely been spoiled by Rolife’s fit and finish, so adjusting expectations is probably key here. Knowing it’s doable but just requires a bit more care makes me feel more confident. I really appreciate you sharing your experience…it helps me lean more toward trying rather than immediately exchanging it.
This is really reassuring to hear thank you! Knowing you didn’t find it too hard and that the LEDs are manageable makes a big difference. The “wood popping out” part still makes me nervous but hearing it’s one of the easier non-Rolife kits definitely nudges me toward keeping it. I would absolutely love to see pictures of your finished build if you’re willing to share! That might be the final push I need!?
I meant “wood popping out” as in more book nook style lol, most of the stuff is just wood pieces lol. There are items you make out of other materials, but none of it is in the same difficulty level as old Rolife kits. I’ll get you some pictures tomorrow, as I’m just climbing in to bed right now! I think you’ll do great if you start this kit!
Got it! thank you for clarifying! That actually makes me feel a lot better, especially knowing it’s more book-nook style and not as tough as older Rolife kits. I really appreciate the encouragement and can’t wait to see the photos. Sleep well!
If you already have it and cant exchange it, then I say just go for it. You have nothing to lose and more to learn. Sometimes those challenges help us to learn and improve and practice.
I build one of the others in this series. It is not rolife quality but doable. Lots of paper parts and glue needed and scissors. This will take you a while.
After some thought, I’ve decided NOT to build this kit and will be returning it to Amazon and picking up a Tonecheer or CuteBee instead. I checked out a few finished builds and realized it just wasn’t my vibe.
No hard feelings at all toward my Secret Santa. I had added this to my wishlist without doing a deep review dive first. Lesson learned!
If anyone has recommendations for a similar skill level that isn’t Rolife, I’m all ears Variety is good!
Sorry I’m a little late with the pictures lol! I got busy yesterday! Sorry to hear that you decided not to build this one, I actually liked it quite a bit, definitely one of the third party ones I liked more.
