A tiny idea today could inspire a better world tomorrow. :globe_showing_europe_africa::sparkles:

The kits are really well put together, to be honest. Would it be nice to replace the plastic bags with something better?

At home, we recycle almost everything we can.

I always bring my own shopping cart or cloth bag so they don’t give me the plastic ones.

Based on the eco-friendly tips on the website:

  • stimulate up-cycling the leftover wood of the kits. I personally don’t use it anymore at the moment. And building a fire with it is not really the most eco-friendly idea .
  • Packaging: the boxes are already of recycled carton, so that is great. But maybe the plastic inside can be replaced as well by paper or biodegradable options.

I think I do the basic things myself:

  • Mostly buying local
  • I’m going litter picking every once in a while.
  • Of course I recycle.
  • I use a compost bin for vegetable, fruit and garden waste
  • When I was looking around to build my house, I chose for a timber frame construction. It had a lot of advantages. One was that it is very eco-friendly.

As Lego already does with the new k its paper bags would be better, New Lego kits with the pieces come into paper bags in the you’re your orders are also wrapped in a big thick plastic, so maybe that could be replaced to by cardboard boxes, I always use the cardboard boxes were my Lego orders come into to putt the old paper in and put them outside for when they come and pick it up every to weeks the old paper

Ourself

  • we buy less plastic bottles as we make our own lemonade with a sirop and water from the tap
  • *We take our bikes when we go to the shops in our own village instead of taking our car out for just a little thing
  • We compost our fruits and vegetables that we can’t eat anymore in our backyard

One suggestion would be to replace the plastic bags in the kits with more eco-friendly or biodegradable packaging :herb: Even small changes like this can reduce waste significantly—especially for such popular kits. It would make building these beautiful miniatures feel even better knowing they’re more sustainable too. It would make a big difference over time!

Another idea would be to include a small ‘eco card’ encouraging builders to reuse packaging or repurpose leftover materials into mini decor :herb: It would turn sustainability into part of the creative experience.

I also think it would be really meaningful if some packaging could be reused as part of the build or display, turning waste into something creative and beautiful :sparkles:

I believe Robotime is already in a good place when it comes to being eco-friendly. Here’s some things I think that can expand the advocacy.

  • Reduce plastic wherever possible. Shift to fully recyclable or compostable packaging
  • Introduce a recycling program where customers can return old or damaged kits for recycling or discounts on future purchases. It builds loyalty while reducing waste.

At home, we also try to help by collecting recyclable items like plastic bottles and cardboards to be recycled in centers. We also dispose off our old batteries in dedicated e-waste drop off points.

To be honest, I’m not sure how much more could be done for Rolife to be more eco friendly. I agree that replacing the plastic bags with paper could be a good thing. The plastic inserts in boxes are great to hold things in the box and during building but they need to go in the bin later.
What do I do?
I only drive short distances in my car as a rule. We live on the side of a hill and I work across town so a bicycle wouldn’t work for me.
We collect bottles and cans and my kids take them to the recycling stations.
We have recycling waste bins and all cardboard, paper, jars etc go in this.
My husband and I take short showers. We’ve been through a drought and have learned to save water.
I turn off the tap when I am brushing my teeth.
We have a water tank that we use to water the garden with.
We don’t use the air conditioner unless it is realllllyyyy hot, and in winter we keep rugs on the couch.
We don’t keep lights on at night unless they are necessary, and turn off all power points when not in use.

Suggestions for Robotime regarding environmental friendliness:

  • Recycle excess wood; I usually throw it away, and I think that’s not good.
  • Use Type C power sources instead of batteries.
  • Replace plastic bags with paper bags or other environmentally friendly biodegradable materials.

Personally, I think I do the basics myself:

  • Avoid using plastic bags when shopping.
  • Use paper straws.
  • Use paper bowls and plates instead of plastic ones at parties.
  • Turn off electrical devices when not in use.
  • Sort waste at the source.

From an eco-friendly perspective, I think using more sustainable packaging would make a big difference, especially reducing plastic and continuing to use recyclable or paper-based materials. It would also be helpful to include guidance on how to recycle leftover pieces or packaging after finishing a build.

Another idea could be encouraging reuse of leftover materials, like providing small project ideas or ways to repurpose unused pieces. That way, less material goes to waste and it adds an extra creative aspect to the experience.

The kits come very well assembled, but I suppose that in the end many small individual bags come together although it is always good to have some loose to store leftover pieces or that you are going to need in the next steps instead of leaving everything scattered on the table hahaha

And on the question of what I have done to improve the environment well I guess the typical, separating each product in separate bags to be able to recycle, taking my own reusable bag or cart to the supermarket when I shop etc.

@Robotime here in wales we recycle lots of materials
Glass
Papers
Plastic
Cardboard
Also garden waste …
I think your kits are very good myself …
Maybe change the plastic bags for paper ones
Maybe adding use reachargable batteries
In the kits ?
I keep all my leftovers they come in handy
But one idea if you have woid waste in production is makeing stensils .. or other objects ? :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I would suggest replacing the plastic in the kits with a form of biodegradable packaging. Paper, perhaps? With the amount of lovely kits you make, even this small change would add up and make a big difference over time.

Another idea would be some way to encourage reusing any leftover materials - maybe an online guide for ways to repurpose unused pieces, or perhaps a forum where people can share suggestions or maybe even share small project ideas using spare/unused pieces from your models? I tend to recycle the leftover wood, but if there was a good way to re-purpose it into other projects I would definitely do that.

Rechargable batteries in the kits would also be more sustainable.

As for what I do myself to improve the environment, I do the ‘usual’ things, like seperating waste for recyclable and non-recyclable, food waste etc. and bring my own recyclable bags when shopping rather than getting extra plastic bags. I always turn off any electrical when I’m not using them, and am trying to save water where possible as well.

I’ve also started trying to be more conscious with clothes, teaching myself larger repairs rather than just throwing things out, learning to embroider and re-style old clothes rather than buy new. I’m still in the learning phase, but it’s a new skill and I’m enjoying myself whilst also trying to do my bit for the environment.

I admit I could be much better! I do recycle but have probably missed some things!
For Robotime, I pretty much agree with what others have said. Any of my wood or paper as well as the box goes into recycle. R ight now I save many of the bags but not all. It would be great if there were something else you could use butI have no idea what. Some sort of cardboard?
Also for some of the mechanical kits etc, there is a large plastic encasement which for us is not recyclable. Maybe a cardboard or pressboard instead? It is where the music box pieces etc are set.

I love the idea of being eco-friendly the wooden builds absolutely fits this criteria. I generally recycled most things when I build. However, there is room for improvement. I agree that reducing the use of plastic as much as possible. Here are my thoughts:

  • replacing plastic tray that holds delicate parts such as music box or electrical components.
  • replacing batteries with usb-C. For the set up of the display would be a lot easier as well.
  • definitely go for paper plates or cups for meet up gathering. This is what I have prepared for the meet up today as well.
  • I kept all the spare parts however unused wooden part I can reuse them for fire rather than it’s going to landfill.
  • I recycled all the cardboard boxes and papers that come with the kit.
  • a lot of the kits comes with plastic wrapping outside of the kit which I think that could be swapped to secure stickers instead.

What meaningful things have you done for this planet?

In my role at work, I lead our employee engagement program, where one of our key goals is to give back to Mother Earth. Each year, we commit to three community clean-up drives in selected areas and a quarterly tree-planting initiative. Because of these efforts, in October 2025 alone we collected 360.4 kg of trash, and by the end of the year we had planted more than 300 trees. These milestones reflect not only our dedication to sustainability but also the collective spirit of our team in making a positive difference.

I’d love to see more eco-friendly packaging and maybe even a small note in the instructions with ideas for reusing leftover pieces or display boxes

On my side, I try to keep and reuse materials whenever I can, and I love giving my finished kits a long life as decoration instead of storing them away.

You could replace plastic packaging inside the kits with paper-based wrapping, similar to newer LEGO kits. It would reduce plastic waste while keeping materials organized, and it’s a practical step toward making creative hobbies more sustainable.

I mean, wooden kits are already very eco friendly, so the only suggestion would be maybe less plastic around the boards, and use eco alternatives like paper?

I always keep the remains too, because you never know when you’ll need some spare wooden bit XD

As for my own action, I do my best to think of all the little gestures I can do at my scale. Like, being careful with the recycling bins, using lights as little as possible, same for hot water… I live in a big city so buying local is a bit more difficult, but when I can I always try to do that (also it tastes better, so win win). And a lot of my hobbies are manual crafting kind of things. Like I said, little gestures every time I can.

Be honest, Robotime had done a great job with those recycle boxes and wooden… a little changing maybe using paper bags instead of plastic bags… the compartment using the board instead of plastic as well… currently i’m always keep all the leftover wooden pieces, keep it probably for my sons to bring back to school for recycle as their school have the recycling activity  beside that I always keep one recycle bag in my bag for standby when I’m out, using recycle bag every time when go supermarket or shopping…
