Ever since I have discovered miniatures and builds, I’ve wanted to do a dolls house.
Every kit I have seen online or even ready made houses were either too big (still have adult kids at home), or too expensive.
One day, I found myself his doll house on Temu at a fairly cheap price. So I purchased it.
Funnily enough, the local supplier who shipped it was KMart. It would have cost me less if I’d bought it from there ha ha.
I was set to go with that but I have since bought shingles from Temu and found some egg trays in the recycling skip at work.
So, I have decided to turn my house into a stone cottage.
It has taken me two hours so far and is I’ve only done half the house.
When I’ve finished, and it’s all dry, I am considering painting it either white or pistachio.
I am going to change the flat roof into a pitched roof and paint shingles.
Inside, I plan on putting another floor in and creating an attic space.
Every room will be different, and the front that opens out will have different rooms rather than an extension of the back ones.
I’m pretty sure that its size is about 1:24 so I plan on making a lot of the furniture.
Wish me luck!
Do you think I should paint it white with a brown roof, or pistachio with a grey roof?
@Suzanne_Jones that is so cute the egg boxes come in handy to do the outside .. which is looking great already ! As you know i have a doll house and you will always see things to put inside ! I love my miniitures and adding to my house ! Its going to look fab ! I love the yellow or green
Will you be getting fiqures ?? I so look forward to this ! My dream is a victorian house one day ! I already have items for it but there so expensive! Have lots if fun creating your dream doll house !
Thanks for your lovely comment Jo. Ive been collecting things for a while now and was planning on a 1:12 house but this is much smaller. Once I put the attic in, it will make the rooms a bit smaller. This will be a 1:24 build so I will probably have to make quite a bit.
I don’t think I will put figures in it though.
Thanks Anje. This is my cheap practice house to learn on. I hope it turns out well but I’d rather learn techniques on a cheaper house than one worth more $$$. Give it a try. Nobody will know what mistakes are made unless you tell them.
This is fantastic! While I was at the Chicago miniature shows, I saw someone use the little square pieces of sandpaper that come in our kits as roofing shingles. It looks so real!
