I recently retired and stumbled upon the world of assembling 3D Wooden puzzles, with the focus on marble runs. I have always loved art objects that move and am a big fan of Rube Goldberg inventions. Wow, the idea that I could follow instructions and create one of my own was very exciting and I though I would give it a try. Jumping right in, I took on a pretty challenging project as pictured below. At times, I was at a complete loss and frustrated but with lots of patience and persistence, I was able to complete these two and link them together. It doesn’t function perfectly, however my primary satisfaction is in the building. i appreciate the design and detail that was put in to the creating of these marble runs, which made the assembly that more rewarding. I learned so much about how things fit together and support one another, delving a little in to the field of architecture. A totally positive and mind blowing experience. Thank you for producing such well crafted and designed objects for all to enjoy.
@lwolkow welcome to the community, and what a brilliant first marble-run story. Linking two challenging builds after moments of frustration is exactly the kind of patience-and-persistence win we love seeing here, especially with your appreciation for the moving architecture behind them. Hope you share more of your builds as you keep exploring this side of the hobby.
Welcome to the community. Thanks for sharing. You did an excellent job! I have never entertained the thought of joining my two marble runs. I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed the building and painting of the London Travel Marble Run. Have you considered that one as well?
Welcome to the community @lwolkow you did a great job on these. They are magnificent kits to build. There are some other great marble runs available. Do you consider getting another one?
I love how you embraced the challenge instead of giving up when things became frustrating. There’s something so satisfying about watching all those mechanical parts come together, even if they aren’t absolutely perfect. Your marble runs look amazing, and I think the patience, persistence, and joy you found in the building process are what truly make you an Earth Builder. Wishing you many more rewarding builds ahead!
Welcome to the community. Thanks so much for sharing your inspiring first build with us all! I’m
So impressed that this was your first project. I hope you continue with many more.
Thank you! Yes, I assembled all four of the Parallel City marble runs and that was less stressful a build except for the lift assembly and linking them all together. I also constructed a mode; from Wood Trick which is the Galaxy marble run and that was a fun build and it worked!
Happy retirement, and what an amazing way to jump right into the hobby! It really is so rewarding to see all that architectural detail come together, even if it takes a lot of patience.
Welcome to the community! What an amazing first project to take on, especially linking two marble runs together. Even if it doesn’t run perfectly, the patience and learning behind it make it such a great achievement
