I have a vision for my customising my ROKR cranes, but I am a little slow in putting it together.
I’m having a couple of issues.
The wood is very thin and very porous, causing the marker I’m using to bleed.
I had a couple of issues fitting one or two parts (they wouldn’t stay in) so a dab of glue to the rescue.
I’m hoping to finish at least one crane tonight and start the other.
I stopped last night because I broke a piece so I need to let the glue dry properly overnight.

The detail on that is amazing. Maybe prime it then color? Small can of spray paint primer would work

They really are beautiful. What you’re describing reminds me of the pagoda, so hang in there.

@Suzanne_Jones you got this … its frustrating when a pieice break and you have to wait for it to dry . But what you have done looks great

Thirsty thin wood can be bit of a challenge. Looking forward to see your process.

This is going to be beautiful. I would spray a light coat of lacquer on it to seal the wood. You can also use a clear natural stain and it will seal the wood as well. Your markers won’t bleed after the wood is sealed

It’s coming together nicely! Sometimes a little glue and patience are all part of the build—looking forward to seeing the finished cranes.

Have you considered Staining it? Maybe it will work better
Looking forward to your customized origami. I think acrylic paint is better for thin wood so it will not bleed.

Oh it’s looking gorgeous Sue! I used to love making origami paper cranes. 
Hopefully the primer/varnish tip provided by others is helpful because I’m interested to know too.

I remember seeing a little trick that might help! For thinner and more fragile wooden pieces, you can try lightly dampening them first to make them a bit more flexible, then assemble them and let them dry before painting. Hope these tips from everyone can help you out! Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

wow!!! I didn’t know there was a crane kit. This reminded me of the times I make paper cranes and hang them. I read somewhere that they bring good luck!

Unfortunately already part of the way through when I posted Dave. But I worked out how to do the edges with minimal bleed.
