👍 [Beginner Tips] How to Protect Your Miniatures from Environmental Effects

My Guide on How to Protect Your Miniatures from Environmental Effects at Home

You’ve bought your favorite puzzle kit, you’re almost done assembling it… and suddenly you remember that you live with a restless cat who loves to jump on shelves and knock things down.

Maybe you’re now wondering how you can protect your creations from situations like this and other types of damage, so your miniatures can stay in their original form for as long as possible.

If that sounds like you, then this little guide is just for you.

  1. Get a special cabinet with transparent doors.

It will protect your miniatures completely from dust, humidity, and curious pet paws.

Cons:

You’ll need to find space for it in your home.

Such cabinets are usually quite expensive.

But if that doesn’t bother you, you can get one and store all the things that are truly precious to you inside.

  1. Don’t want to spend money on a whole cabinet?
There’s a smaller alternative for each puzzle — a protective display case.

It allows you to place your miniatures anywhere without worrying about outside damage.

You can get one in official Robotime, Rolife, or ROKR online stores.

  1. The most budget-friendly option — tapes or double-sided adhesive for surfaces.

They’re sold almost everywhere and cost very cheap. You attach one side to the figure and the other directly to the shelf. This method helps prevent your miniatures from falling.

Cons:

You won’t be able to easily remove the miniature from the shelf it’s attached to, which makes cleaning harder.

There’s another type of tape with a Velcro side. This lets you remove an object for cleaning and then put it back in place.

  1. What if you have no glass cabinet, no display case, and no tape?
Place the figure as high as possible so pets can’t reach it.

Make sure your pet has no access to the upper shelves.

Clean regularly, since this method of storage leads to a lot of dust buildup on figures.

Use a duster — it will gently and carefully remove dust from the surface.

@old_arcture thanks for sharing :hugs: Option 1 seems best to me, to protect all the buildings. I just built a new cabinet to store my buildings in.

Good post, @old_arcture! I’m on the “I have nothing but cat fur all over my house” team and the “Phew, let’s dust and hope everything’s glued down so it doesn’t go flying” team. :joy: All my miniatures are squeezed in between books and other things. Some are packed in so tightly that I can’t even put a box over them to protect them from dust, so I just let them be! :joy:

Thank you! I also thinking about adding lights or garland in it, but I don’t know how yet

@old_arcture I bought LED strips at Action (I don’t know if you have this store in your country) and glued them to the top of the shelf. I made a hole in the back where the plug goes.

Yes, we have Action in Poland, it’s one of my favorite cheap stores, where I usually buy art materials and candles  Thank you for the advice!

Very effective sharing. If you hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known that Rolife also had cabinets.
